Hi Jeremiah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Jeremiah Cardenas, and I have been a professional baker for 18 years. My journey began with learning basic culinary skills, eventually progressing to crafting intricate wedding cakes. However, I discovered my true passion lies in creating sugar cookies. Four years ago, I founded my own business, Confection X Cookies. I am proud to say that, four years later, I am a three-time award-winning cookie maker.
It brings me immense joy to know that my handmade creations are cherished and enjoyed by people celebrating special occasions, such as birthdays, weddings, graduations, and baby showers. I am incredibly excited about the future of Confection X Cookies, especially considering the fantastic start we have had at the beginning of 2024
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has certainly not been without its challenges, but I have learned that success often hinges on the connections you make rather than solely on your knowledge. When I moved to Arizona, I faced the daunting reality of not knowing anyone in the area. Despite this, I embraced the move and decided to restart my small business from the ground up.
Unable to secure a job immediately, I began driving for Uber. Given that I had no established clientele for my cookies in Arizona, I decided to use this opportunity to promote my business. Each morning, I would bake cookies and offer them to my Uber riders, along with a business card and a QR code linking to my Instagram. This approach allowed potential customers to sample my product and easily access my business information.
Now, almost two months later, I am thrilled to have a steady stream of weekly cookie orders. It’s truly remarkable to be conducting an interview with a magazine so soon after my move.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When I founded Confection X Cookies, my initial focus was on creating custom sugar cookies for special occasions. However, nearly two years ago, I observed a slowdown in my business. To address this, I decided to expand my menu by introducing gourmet flavored cookies.
I began with a basic online recipe and gradually customized it, experimenting with various ingredients and techniques, such as changing the type of butter and adding different flavors. A simple adjustment, like browning the butter, can significantly enhance the taste of a cookie.
Those who have tasted my cookies can attest to the time and passion I invest in ensuring that my creations stand out from others.
