Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Torua.
Hi Diana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Diana, I’m 23 years old, and my story begins when I was 3 years old here in Arizona, I lived with my parents when my father got sick. They left me in the care of my paternal grandmother. They moved to Mexico; over the years, I moved many times between Mexico and the United States, and that’s how a big aspect of my personality started, and moving became normal for me.
About 4 years ago, I studied chemical engineering in Hermosillo, Son. Mexico is an exciting career, but it was not my passion. At this point, I had already suffered the loss of my father and my paternal grandmother; they were everything to me. I felt the need to make a change in my life, and that’s when my boyfriend at that moment and I did what I knew how to do best, I packed my things, and we escaped without permission from our families back to Arizona; we both wanted to follow our dreams and start from scratch. I can say that was the decision that changed my life the most; thanks to it, I had my beautiful daughter Emma.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think that when we are growing up, we do not realize how much all our life experiences affect us until we reach adulthood and begin to relate our personality, behavior, and mentality to our past. I suffered from postpartum depression after having my daughter. Honestly, I think I already had depression before I even got pregnant, but I was never diagnosed. To this day, I’m still working on it and trying to improve every day. I appreciate having great people who support me and give me their unconditional love at this stage of my life because I am a better person thanks to them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a social media manager for some local companies here in Az. I’m a co-owner of Galle LLC, which is dedicated to creating and selling art. I also dedicate myself to creating content for my Instagram and TikTok accounts, where I can get money through collaborations with brands. I am grateful to be able to dedicate myself to this because it gives me the necessary schedule flexibility to be present in my daughter’s life and follow my dreams simultaneously.
My true passion is modeling and acting, I started taking modeling and working classes in 2020, signed with a management agency in 2021, and ever since, I have been participating in various projects such as movies, photo shoots, fashion shows, etc., where little by little I am gaining more experience and growing in the industry, my goal is to keep improving and eventually for my passion for becoming my full-time job.
This is one of the main reasons I came back to the US. I wanted to pursue my dreams. I’m only 5 feet tall, so it wasn’t easy becoming a runway model, but the hard work pays off, and my advice to everyone is that it is never too late to start and that your dreams are always worth pursuing.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite memory of my childhood will always be Christmas since that was the date when my whole family would get together every year. My grandmother always made her famous pecan cream cake, and we played board games and danced until dawn. There is a specific Christmas I will never forget. That would be the winter of 2010. It is the last memory I have of my whole family together before losing my father and grandmother. It will never be the same without the famous pecan pie; however, I still enjoy every Christmas in memory of them, and it will always be my favorite holiday! Now I can create more beautiful memories in the company of my daughter.
