Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Enright.
Hi Christine , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My husband, Dan and I, are both Portuguese. When we moved to Arizona, we realized there weren’t any Portuguese bakeries or restaurants.
In February of 2024 we decided to open a bakery from home. We started setting up at our local Tractor Supply on weekends. Shortly after, Portuguese families throughout Arizona were driving up to see us each weekend. We also met many locals who have been to Portugal or grew up near Portuguese bakeries and were excited to be able to purchase our baked goods.
By that summer my husband and I became vendors at our local Prescott Farmer’s Market and we are still vendors today.
Most of our items are recipes that have been in our families for generations. We use clean ingredients, farm fresh eggs, organic flour and no seed oils.
This last fall, we started a food truck. We make breakfast and lunch sandwiches using our breads and Portuguese flavors. Our menu consists of breakfast sandwiches, linguica sandwiches, Pork chop sandwiches and a smash burger using local pork and beef.
We are grateful to be able to keep our heritage alive and share our food and stories with our community. We look forward to growing our bakery and sharing Portuguese foods with others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every venture has bumps along the way, but the overwhelming response and support from our community and our customers keep us going.
We love how our foods trigger memories for our customers and the stories they tell us. We always hear about how our Portuguese cinnamon sweet bread is now a Sunday French toast tradition or how our morning muffins help our customers take their breakfast sandwiches to the next level.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our recipes are traditional recipes handed down from our families and historically factual to the recipes of the Azores islands. Anyone who is from the Azores islands or has ever visited, can taste the authentic flavors of our foods.
My husband is a great cook in nature. I’ve always loved to bake. I had a cake & cookie business for 10 years and I went to culinary school to perfect my baking skills.
We love to cook. We cook all our meals at home and love to share food with our neighbors and friends. Our breads are always a big hit with others, and we love to experiment with spices, so our food truck is growing quickly.
We are very proud of our sandwiches. We use Portuguese spices on our meats, we make a red pepper aioli, that our customers love, and place them in our fresh baked rolls.
What sets us apart from others, is our ingredients. We take pride in offering good food with healthy ingredients.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
You can learn a lot about baking from YouTube. There are many skilled bakers out there. Many different cultures have similar baked goods made with slight differences in techniques so I love looking at all kinds of baking videos online from American, Brazilian to Chinese bakers.
