Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Edelman.
Sarah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a true life obsession with sugar! Okay, maybe not an actual obsession but I have always had an admiration for all things sweet since before I even had as a toddler. Cookies, candy, cotton candy – you name it, I was eating (and LOVING) it!
My company Fluff Yeah started in my own home which was basically by accident. I bought a small cotton candy machine from Amazon and would spin cotton candy for hours upon end for pure enjoyment. I always loved experimenting with the more uncommon flavors that you would be surprised to see in a cotton candy creation. A few of the crazy ones to name have been ‘Mango and Tajîn’, ‘Banana Cream Pie’, ‘Cinnamon Churro’ and ‘Mint Mojito’.
At the time, I had a lot of friends who were following along my cotton candy adventures on social media. A few friends asked me if I could make cotton candy for their personal events like bridal showers, birthday parties and gender reveals. I was so excited and honored that they wanted to include my cotton candy in their important life moments! It was from that point that I realized I had a unique idea that hadn’t yet been tapped into locally. It was right around that time when Fluff Yeah was officially born!
Since then, I have invested in two professional machines, upgraded our packaging and increased our marketing efforts. I have loved every moment of growing this company and plan to continue along this sweet journey for years to come!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Thankfully, it has been fairly a smooth road so far! I am grateful for the lessons we’ve learned along the way as we continue to scale Fluff Yeah as a business.
I do foresee some challenges coming up as we try to submerge ourselves into the wedding and event space. We currently only offer pre-packaged fluff but we see the value in activating at live events as well. It will be important for us to network and create great contacts so that we are invited to spin cotton candy at the best events around the valley.
Please tell us about Fluff Yeah.
Fluff Yeah is a company that specializes in making artisanal and premium cotton candy from scratch. We take classic cotton candy and add a unique and surprising twist on the flavors. We currently offer 36 flavors and some of the fan favorites are Cookies and Cream, Piña Colada, Blueberry Muffin, Lavender Honey, Rosè all Day, and Sweet Watermelon.
Cotton Candy was invented in 1897 and was debuted at the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904. For over one-hundred years, people have been enjoying this sweet treat in its classic-flavored forms. Fluff Yeah is different because we’re taking a childhood favorite pastime and adding a unique twist to it. Not only are we crafting up different flavors but we’re creating experiences for people as they try something new.
It’s basically impossible not to smile when you’re eating cotton candy and we’re excited that we can play a part in brightening someones day and bringing them back to memories of their childhood.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I truthfully don’t think that we would choose to do anything differently. Every challenge that we’ve encountered has only helped us learn along the way. We’re grateful for all the support and encouragement that we’ve received from the Phoenix community thus far.
The advice I would give to myself in the past (or really to anyone who is starting their own business) is to ‘just go for it’! Stop thinking about all of the things that could go wrong and be willing to take a BIG leap of faith. Of course, there will be some hurdles and challenges as you build out your company but you never know what potential your idea has if you don’t ever try it!
