Meet Nicole Libson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Libson.

Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated with my BS in Exercise & Wellness from Arizona State University. I am a Certified Personal Trainer. I started my business in October 2018 after quitting as a trainer at a commercial gym. I started as an on-site trainer so I traveled to and from clients’ home or apartment gyms. In May 2019, I moved into a house and turned my garage into a gym in August 2019 in 3 days. The gym grew faster than expected, so my business partner and I found a building to transform into a Semi Private Training Facility in November 2019. In under six days, we were able to turn the warehouse into a fully functioning gym.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Over the past year or so I went from broke trainer to charging what I’m worth. I was going all over the valley from Gilbert to North Phoenix training clients and working part time jobs. I knew I needed a change. I invested in a business mentor and emptied my bank account to do so. I knew it was the next step. It was the best decision that I ever could make for myself and my business. Many of the tasks were to narrow my niche, record myself talking to post on social media and get comfortable with being uncomfortable. As soon as I let go of being afraid to speak out, I began to build rapport with my audience and create relationships that led to clients. It was a turning point for my business. It was a leap of faith but if I didn’t take the risk… I’m not sure I’d have my gym right now at age 23. My biggest advice to anyone wanting to start a business is to invest in yourself first. Put the work in to discover if this is what you want and why is it what you want. I relentlessly pursue my dream to impact the women in my community every single day.

Please tell us about your business.
I help women find self love and confidence through exercise. I specialize in small group training for women. This style of training allows me to keep the sessions affordable and personable. My business name is Live Active Fitness and the meaning behind the name is that I wanted clients to train with me consistently. I wanted to make it affordable so that it wasn’t a one stop shop to lose a couple of pounds and quit. The goal is to create a fitness community where women feel empowered, supported and welcomed. Most of my clients train three times a week and they can create sustainable results because they are allowing their bodies to adequately recover between workouts. Each session we train the full body with an emphasis on squat, hip thrust or an upper body exercise. What sets me apart from others is that I truly care about my clients and they are well being. I can relate to a lot of their struggles such as eating disorders, body dysmorphia, lack of training knowledge and hitting rock bottom. Besides, I am a huge advocate in the correct form. I call myself the Form Police because I constantly correct their form so that they learn how to perform the exercises & prevent injuries.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that I can appeal to many different types of women. I have clients that are in college, newly out of college, in professional careers and new mama’s. There are many different walks of life coming in the gym with a different story, but we all come together to reach a similar goal. I love that women are putting themselves as a priority and showing up for themselves consistently. The new gym has a Tempe address but it’s right next to the Scottsdale Police Department.
