Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Kohlerman.
Nathan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ever since I was a teenager, all I ever knew was pain, whether it be mental, emotional, physical, and even spiritual. Around the age of 16, I felt like an outcast, separated from friends and family. Due to the lack of stability in my home, I started hanging around the wrong people and making the wrong choices. It wasn’t until I reached rock bottom, addicted to heroin, and I was running out of options to move forward in my life. I chose to join the military shortly after becoming sober, and effort to find my true calling in life.
After 5 1/2 years of honorable service, I ended up being medically discharged for bilateral compartment syndrome in both of my legs, prohibiting me from running and being an asset to combat environments. The moment the doctors told me that I would never live a regular life again, I chose to immediately find solutions to live a healthier, happier, pain-free life. I found this through personal training, competing as a heavyweight bodybuilder and specializing in functional movement assessments, corrective exercise, post-rehabilitation, and mobility.
In 2017, I had suffered a Traumatic hand accident that took away bodybuilding forever from me. Little did I know, that drove me in the direction to where I am now. After realizing how unhealthy I was from bodybuilding during my rehabilitation, I decided to put 100% of my efforts into finding the best methods that would help those who I serve live a pain-free life. It is now June 2019, and I’m approaching my second year owning and operating my own business. Utilizing several movement systems (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, Functional Range Conditioning, Animal Flow, Steel Mace Flow, and corrective exercise), I have had the opportunity to help over 250 people feel, move, and live happier, healthier, more intentional lifestyles while decreasing the amount of pain they have on a daily basis.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Being a personal trainer, I had no idea how to actually own and operate my own business. There were several times (even today) that I get stuck wondering if what I am doing in my business is the right or wrong thing. Some of the struggles I encountered was not knowing the infrastructure of the business, not understanding the financial and tax-related issues when running a business, and struggling with balancing the time I spent working with clients and the time I spent working on my business in order to help even more people than I already do.

How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
Growing up, I was introverted for the most part. I was bullied at a young age and was made an outcast for the majority of my youth. Instead of having friends, I trained in several forms of mixed martial arts from the age of 5 to 16. It wasn’t until high school that I actually had social exposure, mostly due to participating in sports such as football and wrestling.
