Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Townsend.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I came out to Arizona from the Bay Area for the first time in the late ’60s to attend ASU as a fine arts major. It was then that I fell in love with the dessert. Upon graduation, I was recruited into a corporate training program and stayed in the business world until 2016.
Finding myself newly retired, I was encouraged by my artist background family, three brothers and a 94-year-old mother still giving painting lessons, to pick up a paintbrush after 45 years. And, here I am today enjoying the joys of my primal passion.
Please tell us about your art.
My medium is oil. I am still discovering different techniques and styles both through exposure to other artists and time spent with professionals at the Scottsdale Artist School.
Though initially, I thought of myself as a portrait artist, I continue to evolve incorporating more landscape, Western and impressionistic inspired art styles.
I hope my art gives people a sense of pleasure.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Mix your own colors, make your own canvases, invest in good brushes.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Currently, I have paintings displayed through Sonoran Arts League at the Anthem Civic Center and The Scottsdale Artist School in Old Town.
I am a member of the League and attend SAS.
In the month of November (weekend before Thanksgiving and the weekend after) I participate in “Hidden In The Hills.” This is an excellent opportunity to view over 100 local artists in Cave Creek.
I can also be reached via my email.
