Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Holland.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started playing drums when I was 11 years old, mowing lawns & doing chores for my parents for almost a year to save money for my first kit. I am now 25 years old, born on June 14th, 1993. I did three semesters of marching band (playing snare at Peoria High School) when I was 14/15 years old, & eventually started a YouTube channel that got progressively larger. Today, the channel is the 5th largest drum channel in the world with 77 million views & 500k subscribers. A day out of high school I performed with The Green Children in LA, then Europe, for about eight months. After that, I was contacted by The Word Alive, & I toured six to eight months with them a year for five years internationally, hitting five continents multiple times. I quit TWA in 2016 to pursue solo endeavors. This includes sold-out solo tours in Southeast Asia & China, as well as performances in South Korea, Japan, Germany, & many more. I played drums for Playboi Carti on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2017 as well. I am currently also playing with guitar virtuoso Jason Richardson, having released an album together in 2016 that we have done multiple tours domestically & internationally on. I have also been teaching drums for eight years. I am thankful to have overwhelming support by DW Drums, Meinl Cymbals, Remo, Vic Firth, Roland, 64 Audio, Adidas, Movado, Young & Reckless, VitaCoco, RX Bar, & numerous other amazing brands.
Please tell us about your art.
I do live drum performances, either solo in the form of a ‘clinic,’ or with multiple different acts. Drums add a substantial amount of energy, nuance & feel to any song, & that is my job!
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
The saying might be viewed as a cliche, but; when there’s a will, there’s a way. The amount of time you are willing to put into something is what you’re going to get out of it.
