Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucia Burns.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had this idea for a really big, colorful, high visibility luggage identifier. I kept the idea in my head for several years but didn’t have the time to act on it. After the real estate market collapsed in 2007, as a Realtor, I now had a lot of time to think about this little idea. I made a few prototypes and put them in our luggage for a trip to NYC. Once the bags came down the carousel, people made positive comments and were asking me where I bought this great luggage ID.

So I started on the production of Luggage Huggers; wonderful spandex luggage ID that can be spotted a block away. I was selected to appear on CNBC The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch and the business was launched! I was fortunate to be picked up by major travel catalogs such as Magellan’s and TravelSmith. People are so kind and occasionally email me to let me know how much they enjoy using Luggage Huggers and that just makes my day.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting up a novel travel product in the midst of a recession wasn’t easy. It was difficult starting out so small and paying premium prices for fabric, etc. so costs were always a concern. Luggage Huggers sell themselves once they are out on a piece of luggage, so my job was everything else about starting a business. I had a lot to learn from package design to order fulfillment and inventory.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Luggage Huggers – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Luggage Huggers makes the hassles of travel just one thing less to worry about. Our specialty is creating something original and fun to add to a travelers experience. We are most proud of our originality. There are many kinds of belts and tags, but none so easy to use and see as a Luggage Hugger. We are also able to custom print fabric or screen print Luggage Huggers for corporate use. This powerful marketing option is one of our unique features.
