Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Renninger.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Liz. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey began in marketing. I graduated from the University of Arizona (go Wildcats) and began working at a title company in the real estate industry after I moved from Tucson to Phoenix. This was when the housing market was hot—before it took a massive crash around 2008. I realized, while I loved helping residential real estate agents grow their business, something was missing. So I left to go back to school to study broadcast journalism. I am also a graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at ASU (go Devils!). Yes I do get flack from my U of A and ASU friends for going to both schools.
I worked as a TV reporter for about three years in New Mexico after graduating from ASU. While I loved reporting and the stories I was able to tell, I once again found myself searching for something. I moved back to Phoenix and began pursuing a career in PR.
A friend I knew who worked at the local NBC affiliate in Phoenix, introduced me to Jennifer Kaplan, owner of Evolve Public Relations and Marketing. At the time, I was freelancing at night and on the weekends for another PR company, but it was all part-time. Jennifer offered me that chance to go full-time with PR, and I jumped at the opportunity.
Fast forward to more than five years later, and I am currently the Director of PR at Evolve. We have an incredible team of PR professionals working with dozens of clients all over the country. It’s been an incredible ride, and I firmly believe that I am exactly where I am supposed to be at this moment.
Has it been a smooth road?
The journey in my professional career has been exactly that—a journey. I think the zig zags are important in the grand scheme of it all. Without some struggles, you can’t continue to learn and grow. I definitely learned what I didn’t like!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Evolve Public Relations and Marketing story. Tell us more about the business.
Evolve Public Relations, and Marketing offers a unique perspective for businesses looking to evolve their brand/image both locally and nationally. We work with companies from all genres, niches, and industries to help get that awareness out there through traditional and nontraditional media. We offer both public relations services as well as strategic social media planning and execution.
I know that the people we work with are trusting us with their messaging and, to me, that is an incredible honor. We are tasked with helping companies tell their “story” through various media outlets. The owner, Jennifer Kaplan, has built an incredible reputation in this industry. That is so important in PR. I am always proud to say I work at Evolve because I know how hard each and every person works at this company.
Our relationships with the media, national and local, is what sets us apart. I support the very reporters, editors, and influences I pitch every day. Not only do we work together, but I am a big advocate for what they do both professionally and personally.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
If the next 5-10 years are any indication from the previous, it’s going to be very busy! The need for good content has only grown in the years I started working in PR.
The public has a hunger for knowledge.
I think social media platforms have created some incredible avenues and opportunities for businesses. It’s a very exciting time to be involved in the industry. Never before have people had so much access to news 24/7.
