Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Rogers.
Hi Leah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Leah Lux and I am the CEO of L. Luxury and Design. It all started with a dream as a little girl always playing with doll houses and making them beautiful! I never in a million years thought I would be living my dream. Eleven years ago I left an abusive relationship and everything I had to start my life over. Leaving from a shelter and starting off with nothing as a single mother was definitely a challenge. I told myself that I would do better not only for me but for my children too. I wanted to give them a life I never had. So, I started work at a corporate job and three years later I was able to purchase my first house. When I purchased the house I just knew that I can make it beautiful! To say the least it wasn’t the best on the eyes, but I saw past that and knew it just needed a little love and creativity. That is where it all started. So by the time I was finished with the house I realized that my gift was something amazing! Just like that people started to hire and trust me to make their homes beautiful. Today, I am the CEO of L. Luxury and Design. I am so blessed to say that not only am I a female entrepreneur, I have been able to change so many people’s lives one house at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur has definitely not been easy. For the first year I wasn’t making any money and had to learn how to master my craft. So realizing what works and what doesn’t was a daily challenge. I remember wondering if people would like my design. I was worried that people wouldn’t take me seriously because I was young with little experience in the business. Every day I learned something new and strived to be better and I’m so happy that I did not quit.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We want to give our clients a final product that is elegant, bold, and specific to their taste. We want to create interiors that are not traditional designs that other designers have created or recreated over and over again. We want to turn your home into a showpiece that has elements you have never seen before. Interior Design and Decorating is our specialty, and we have decorated interiors and exteriors for a wide variety of homeowners. Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I found people to learn from that were already established and successful in the business. From one client to the next I compared my work to my mentors to build my confidence. Each time I realized that I was getting better and not second guessing myself as much. Nothing is wrong with learning from someone who already has experience.
