Today we’d like to introduce you to JL Coates.

JL, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a young girl growing up near Chicago, I had the privilege of visiting the city quite often. I fell in love with its architecture and history. I knew from a young age, I wanted to pursue a career in Architecture + Design. This passion led me to ASU’s architectural program and the Design/Build industry here in Arizona. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with a handful of amazingly talented architects + designers, gaining experience in both residential and commercial design + construction. After 10+ years in the field, I knew what the next step was in my career path. This next step is how JL Coates was established. I’m incredibly humbled by the wonderful clients I’ve met and the relationships JL Coates is building, from suppliers + vendors to old colleagues + new industry partners. Each project brings a new relationship, an exciting challenge and with that a new experience, which to me, personally, is priceless!

Has it been a smooth road?
I love the quote by Frank Lloyd Wright, “Business is like riding a bicycle, either you keep moving or you fall down.” I believe that with anything you pursue in life it is never going to be easy at first, but with passion, practice, motivation + consistency anything can be achieved. In the Design/Build industry, product, technology and clients’ wants + needs are ever-changing so each project presents new challenges and with that opportunity to continue learning and gaining new experiences!

JL Coates is a full-service architectural + interior design studio that specializes in professional services, which range from online interior design solutions to residential bathroom, kitchen + full-home remodels. We also specialize in new construction, add-ons, commercial new builds + tenant improvements. JL Coates offers 15+ years of experience in the field and we take pride in sharing our knowledge + resources with our clients. It is our goal to be your advocate, guiding you through each phase of your project! JL Coates is not your typical Interior Design Studio, with a combined background in construction, architecture, design + business, our team is able to ensure a unique design/build experience that is transparent and stress-free.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Phoenix has a lot to offer, from year-round sunshine, championship golf courses, upscale resorts, and charming restaurants, what’s not to love. Arizona is also well known for its rich landscapes, colorful mountains & breathtaking sunsets. Other than the extreme temperatures during the summers, there’s no other place I’d rather be!
