Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Supiot.
Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Cozy Clicks almost seven years ago because of my love of taking photos of my own four children. When my kids were born, I had borrowed my dad’s camera and learned everything I could about photography so I could capture every moment. And when you have kids, you know, there are lots of moments you want to capture!
In order to have a more flexible schedule so I could watch my young kids, I left my job as an elementary teacher and decided to start a small portrait photography company. At first, it was mostly just for fun. I only took on clients that were friends or family, but quickly was referred to others and from there business really started to take off!
Soon, I was working full time as a photographer, but because I had a strong background in education, I wanted to mash up my two passions, so I started a photography blog in connection with my company and website.
This blog became an extension of Cozy Clicks and a place for new photographers to learn how to take better pictures of their own children and to learn the basics of photography. I serve my blog clients by offering free articles, video tutorials, and photography resources.
In addition, I offer online courses to new photographers from all around the world, helping them learn their craft and take and edit better portraits.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Photography is a never ending learning process. Because I don’t have a strong business background, I really needed to step up my game in that aspect and really had to learn how to smoothly run a business and market myself and a professional and positive way.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cozy Clicks story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a portrait photographer and photography educator. I serve my clients by helping teach them to take and edit better portraits.
I am most proud of the evolution of Cozy Clicks from local family photographer to being able to help others learn and grown in the field of photography. I love being able to connect with people from all over the world.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t think I was lucky at all. I believe I had a vision and a goal and over time that continued to evolve and I just went with it and didn’t give up.
