Meet Diane Howard of Esthetic Finesse in Paradise Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Howard.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My mom and dad have always been a strong influence in my life and always have encouraged me to believe in myself. They were always so caring and nurturing, which plays a huge role in who I am today and is a big reason I entered nursing school. After I started school, my friend was pursuing aesthetic nursing and encouraged me to join with her. My parents always inspired my creative and artistic side growing up, so I wanted to learn more about aesthetic nursing. The aesthetic industry got me excited more than the other nursing disciplines because it is such a delicate and intricate form of art that brings diversity in what you can create.

Once I was done with nursing school, I started working at a plastic surgeon’s office, I spent my time there shadowing the main injector. I became a sponge and started soaking it all in. When I wasn’t working, I volunteered as much as I could. All my mentors helped motivate me to keep learning and expand my knowledge.

I wanted to branch out and experience more, so I started working at a medical spa. At the medical spa, while continuing my training, I had a large rotation of clients. It was there that I really started to blossom and the artistic side of me got to flourish. It gave me the opportunity to perfect my technique and learn what my patients are looking for. It became clear to me that aesthetic nursing was really what I wanted to focus on. After growing my knowledge in the field, I felt like it was time to do it on my own. So, I took the leap!

For me, opening my own business was the only way I could provide my patients the result they were looking for. I wanted to offer the quality of service, without lacking on the calming and relaxing atmosphere they enjoy. I learned a lot in the first year and can truly say that things have come full circle. I know that I offer something unique and will always strive for the best.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I never really thought of myself as an entrepreneur and have never had the experience before, so learning how to properly run a business was a challenge for me. I had to learn quickly everything that goes into running a business like, how to handle the books, marketing, time management, and how to create and manage my patient flow.

Fear of starting a new business and not filling up my workdays with clients made me stay focused and work harder than I ever had to before. There are a lot of fears and misinformation when it comes to the aesthetic nurse industry, so it’s important for me to provide everyone with the most information and education that I can. Having the right equipment/products, staying current on techniques, and providing optimal service is what all patients deserve. My goal is to always see my patients love the way they look and feel.

Please tell us about Esthetic Finesse.
My business specializes in injectables, Botox/Dysport, Facial Fillers, and Vitamin Therapy. I enjoy being able to use my skills and perfect my techniques to give the outcome my patients expect. I’m mostly known for an extremely gentle technique and creating natural enhancements. I have an artistic eye and strive for a more subtle look that my patients tend to love. I really pride myself on the warm, friendly atmosphere that feels like you are hanging out, having a good time, rather than in a stuffy doctor’s office. I make sure that I know all the emerging techniques and industry standards, along with having the up-to-date techniques to produce the most natural and appealing results. Finesse is so important in this industry. I am most proud of being able to organically grow my business and while building confidence in others.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My most favorite childhood memory is my times at summer camp. My parents always signed my sister and I up for fun camps through the summers, some together, some separate. I remember always being nervous on the first day but once I found some friends to link with the nerves were gone. So many fun outdoor activities, crafting, and that group activity bond that was created. Thanks mom and dad!
