Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyndi Lundeberg.
Cyndi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an Emmy award-winning reporter and anchor. I got my start in news in Jackson Tennessee but have moved all over including Arizona.
Some of my favorite stories I have covered in Arizona have been about the border, about the marine corps, and about PTSD and Veterans living in Phoenix. My background in news is how my Instagram name came to be: News Booze and Shoes. News- because I’m a reporter, booze because who doesn’t like to unwind after a hard day, and shoes because you got to look fab on air!
As a female journalist, you are expected to look impeccable every single day, and I actually receive messages when I repeat outfits, that’s how Amazon came to be a vital part of my life (I’m dramatic). I buy 99% of the outfits I wear on air, on amazon, and so do a lot of other female journalists as well.
I love connecting with people whether that be on air through stories or through my fashion finds I find on amazon.
Fun fact: I shoot and edit my own photos and videos! I am what they call a multimedia journalist or one-man band.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think branching out and starting my own amazon page has been more work than I thought it would be. I used to look at bloggers and think – oh how simple. It’s really not, it is a lot of work. Every weekend I am out shooting photos of myself (yes, I do it all on my own), and then there’s the editing, and then posting every day. Beyond that, you have to engage with other accounts and posts. I also spend hours searching amazon for cute finds and curating a style collection on my amazon store, that takes me so long. Even writing this I can feel people’s eyes rolling haha, but I really did not think it would be as much work as it is. If you really want to make money blogging, it is a 20+ hour a week commitment at least.
Please tell us about News Booze & Shoes.
My niche is amazon finds. Unlike other bloggers, my entire Instagram feed is dedicated to what I find on amazon.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think being genuine. Connecting with people you don’t know can be hard, and you have to get them to invest in you as a person. Being real, making them feel like they’re seeing the real you can go a long way. I also truly do try to be a accessible as possible to anyone who reaches out- whether that be styling an outfit for them, or helping them find something I posted, or just responding about someone’s day. (On the note about picking out an outfit for someone… I literally styled someone’s entire vacation outfits took me hours haha).
