Meet Chyna Coleman of Made New Mama in South Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chyna Coleman.

Chyna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story began back in 2016, approximately a year after having my daughter. I just finished my Master’s of Occupational Therapy program and diving deep into my first job. I was so excited to begin this career journey but once I started working, something didn’t feel right. Thinking that I was just being ungrateful and on the other hand, obligated because I needed to provide for my daughter, I kept working. But this feeling would not pass me, a feeling that I should be doing something else with my life.

At that time, I became more active in my church, Faith Christian Center- Phoenix. There were a great deal of sermons focused on activating your prayer, getting in front of God, and finding out what your purpose and calling is. When I did, I heard His voice whisper, you are an encourager. It gave me chills! From that day on, I have been on the journey to find out who and how I am supposed to encourage.

Fast forward two years, as I worked on my self-discovery, I noticed I had a heart for women. Not just any woman, but the woman of the single mom journey. I became a single mom in the last semester of my college program and wouldn’t regret it. Through my wrong choices, I’ve found my baby love (Avah), my purpose, my love for writing, and helping other women like me. It hasn’t all been easy but I have finally found my lane as the creator, Christian blogger, and certified life coach at Made New Mama.

As of the beginning of 2020, I dived whole-heartedly into blogging at www.madenewmama.com where I share posts focused on faith, health and life-balance for the single mom. I like to share topics that acknowledge our challenges as young single moms striving for a better tomorrow with practical tips, biblical truth, and stories. I haven’t launched the coaching practice/workshops yet, but it will be coming soon.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No way has it been a smooth road. I don’t know how many times that I thought in my head that I wanted to just quit. Being a single mom, pursuing your passion can be stressful. I am still working full-time as a lymphedema therapist in an outpatient clinic to make sure our home and my daughter is taken care of. But in my after hours and weekends is where the magic happens.

I do still struggle with being able to be as consistent as I want to be. Especially when things pop up that are of greater priority, I have to find the time to make it up. I believe my greatest struggles are mostly with the battle of the mind, overcoming doubt, fear, imposter syndrome, and comparison. Without my faith and amazing boss women from my church being in my corner, I would not be where I am nor would I have the vision that I have today.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Made New Mama – what should we know?
My business is Made New Mama, a christian mom blog focused on encouraging and edifying single mothers to become more confident and walk in boldness for the things they desire out of life and their faith walk. As a life coach, I partner with women so that they can identify what’s important to them, how to make time for it, and get the peace they truly deserve amidst overwhelm. I am a certified life breakthrough coach and single mom ministry leader.

Like I mentioned above, I haven’t fully launched the coaching practice yet, but I have enjoyed the opportunity to connect with other women and single mothers that have resonated with something written on my blog. What sets me apart is by genuine desire to see women see life from a different perspective. I know what it’s like to be challenged mentally, physically, financially, and spiritually while still walking around with a smile on my face for my child. I know the worry, the frustration, and feelings of being stuck in a situation. But I also know where there is a way in, there is always a way out. We just have to look for it.

My vision for Made New Mama is filling in the gaps in regards to support, resources, and education for the single mother through a faith-based approach. I desire to create a safe haven for women to address their needs and find strategies to do something about them.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are so many key role players in my success of pushing out what’s in my heart. First and foremost, God gets all the glory. Second, my mom and dad who have been my rock in helping with Avah when I needed to work on a project or go to an event.

The many amazing boss women of my church who have been amazing examples for me. La’Vista Jones was the one who recommended me for this interview and who continues to push me to Level Up. Brenda Cunningham who planted the entrepreneurial seed into me when it was just a fresh idea. Isha Cogborn and April Nowlin are both single mothers who both knowingly and unknowingly inspired me to keep going as they are already walking in the businesses successfully.

There are so many other people and entities I could mention. But I just say, Thank You!
