Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Williams.
Amber, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in beautiful San Diego, California. My story starts there; my roots are there. The story starts as a young teen mother. Committed to overcoming the “statistics.” I had many obstacles, but the illumination of my dreams were never dimmed by all the odds that were stacked against me. I was dedicated to evolving from the struggle of teen pregnancy, poverty and poor choices. I became a teen mom at the age of 14, and had my second child at 15. I was married by 16. Working extremely hard to give my children the very best, I strived to give them opportunities in spite of society’s judgments. I chose to live a life of passion and triumph. Fighting against all odds and demanding respect, I was committed to raising intelligent, confident, well poised leaders while living by example. Overcoming countless adversaries, I kept my head and goals high. I managed a small business at the age of 16. In the coming years, I worked in fashion, managed the operations of a large fashion retailer, and managed multiple non-profit organizations. Currently I own a business management agency allowing me to assist others.
I developed an ever-increasing passion for women empowerment as the “teenage mom” stereotype filled me to overcome. Speaking as “an inspiration,” I try to be relatable. My story will have you laughing, crying and reflecting all in the same message. This is where Queen Supporting Queens was birthed. Pouring into the lives of women from all walks of life, but specifically, to those in need of that sister-friend who will help pull them to their finish line! I truly believe that you can overcome obstacles by constantly keeping the “WIN” at the forefront of it all. Like I share with my Queens: Crowns Up! We are royal, even if I have to hold on to your crown while you dust yourself off…
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh no, it’s never been easy. I think the greatest struggle was the fear of disappointment. It’s something I still deal with today. As a young person who had self-inflicted hurdles, it’s almost like you are in survival mode. The fear of disappointing myself and those who depend on, or look up to me, has always been hard. Before my children’s father was murdered in 2006, we had just separated and there I was facing that disappointment… Little did I know in all of that failure was fuel. I learned that sometimes disappointment is part of the process. This is how that “crown dusting/lifting” I refer to begins. LOL!
Queens Supporting Queens – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Queens Supporting Queens Is my baby. My hearts work if you will. QSQ is evolving. We will be a platform that provides resources, support and tools to women from every background. We are currently setting up for a non-profit status. On our own, we have helped women nationally with finances totaling over 5k in less than a year. We have sponsored dance and performing arts scholarships for young queens. On behalf of QSQ I have been able to speak of my faith as It is the very core of who I am. I’ve been able to consult & teach basic business marketing tips. Providing support to Queens starting up businesses or revamping their brand. I want to be known as a woman whose faith in God would not let her give up on herself. And because of my faith, I am committed to showing and reminding women of their royalty and unique greatness. Every struggle is a part of the plan. Queens Supporting Queens is an echo of that. I am most proud of the women we have impacted and the support of so many women committed to supporting their sister Queens. I believe I went through all that I went through to show another woman that YOU CAN OVERCOME.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was launching QSQ within a FB group. Within six months we hit 1.6k members and we are working hard to expose the potential of this sisterhood to the masses! We have testimonies of business growth, personal evolutions and true self-discovery all because of the support of a fellow Queen. I’m proud of the potential but I’m most proud of the Impact the small “teen mom” from Cali was able to make just by choosing to wear her Crown High, scratched dusty and dented at multiple points. This Queen is raising and lifting one crown at a time.
