Daily Inspiration: Meet Tatiana (Tia) Pushkina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana (Tia) Pushkina.

Hi Tia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Becoming a makeup artist has been my childhood dream ever since I watched TV shows about transforming women. I always loved doing makeup for my friends, and as soon as I finished high school, I applied to a beauty technology college. I’m originally from Siberia, and in my hometown there is one of the strongest educational colleges in Russia for training beauty professionals. I became a student there for four years, gaining an excellent education and enough experience to start building my career in the beauty and makeup industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey in the beauty industry has been full of challenges, but each challenge came with its own reward. When I first started, makeup felt like pure art, full of creativity and glamour. But I quickly realized that it is also very much a service profession. Working with people requires emotional intelligence, patience, and the ability to really listen — to understand the client’s needs and put them above my own artistic desires.

Over the years, I’ve learned to strike a balance: to guide clients with my expertise while truly honoring their vision. I’ve discovered the importance of asking the right questions, understanding their desires, and shaping my skills to deliver results that not only satisfy but often surpass expectations. Every client is a collaboration, and that collaboration has taught me more than any classroom ever could.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional makeup artist, hair stylist, and aesthetic technologist, specializing in bridal, fashion, and event projects. Beauty has always been my language — a way to connect, to inspire, and to bring confidence to others. Over nearly 18 years, I have honed my craft in bridal, fashion, and event industries, working on runway shows, red carpets, and editorial projects across the U.S. and Russia. Every client and project is a collaboration, a chance to transform not just appearances, but how someone feels about themselves.

Moving to California in 2020 opened a new chapter — it challenged me, expanded my horizons, and pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined. I am proud to have been recognized as Best Makeup Artist in California (New York Fashion Award 2023), but what truly drives me is the joy and confidence my work brings to the people I serve.

Soon, I will have the incredible honor of judging makeup artists at the international TE’ORA Beauty Championship. It’s an opportunity to celebrate creativity, mentor talent, and contribute to the global beauty community. For me, every brushstroke is more than technique — it’s a way to tell a story, highlight individuality, and create beauty that resonates far beyond the surface.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in my profession is to keep moving forward, even when the path feels slow or repetitive. Staying open to new opportunities is essential, because you never know what chance may come your way. I’ve also learned that to become a successful and sought-after makeup artist, you must truly love what you do — and genuinely love people. Clients are incredibly sensitive to energy, and they come to you not just for skills, but for the experience and connection you bring. Sharing that energy and care is what makes your work truly meaningful.
