Daily Inspiration: Meet Joseph “DJ Dimension” Mercado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Mercado.

Hi Joseph, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Joseph Mercado, originally from Spanish Harlem NYC, moved to Phoenix in 2004 and I am the creator of ndmdigital.com. I’ve been an electronic music artist since the late 90s with music productions released by dance music record labels like Strictly Rhythm, Nervous Records, King Street and ZYX (Germany) under the alias DJ Dimension, as well as one half of the acclaimed MegaMen Sounds Production team with William Rosario.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I can say that the road has been a constant learning experience, so it’s important to understand that self-awareness, balance, and wellness are some keys to overcoming the inevitable struggles and obstacles.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
NDMDIGITAL is a “boutique style” electronic music multimedia platform created to encompass a variety of underground art forms and was originally started as next dimension music, a record label for my own music productions in 2005. The transition from vinyl and CD to mp3 format saw next dimension music becoming one of the first labels on Beatport and through the years, has expanded to include a diverse catalog of over 1300 original electronic music creations by artists worldwide. By 2010 online retailers increased in popularity and music streaming platforms were introduced, this global exposure multiplied our presence, opening the door for licensing opportunities expanding our sound to compilation albums, overhead radio, apps, TV and movies . Locally we provide curated DJ services for cool events in Phoenix, some organizations and businesses we’ve teamed up with include MSPS Global, Goodyear Arts and Culture, Pilates Barre, CutThroat Barbershop, Fit Body Bootcamp and Ruti Fashions.

What I’m most known for is being a DJ but NDMDIGITAL keeps me busy on a lot of levels from running the record label, music production to the marketing of things. During the pandemic, I’ve taken time to reinvent the brand resulting in some amazing collaborations adding creative layers to NDMDIGITAL. Some of these projects include the launch of 24/7 streaming NDMDIGITAL radio where you can listen to selections from our label catalog, artist spotlight interviews or just vibe out to dope electronic music dj mixes from the NDM universe on our website or listening app.

Also, we are really excited to announce our first publication featuring a gallery of 5 amazing illustrators that include Albert Morales, Justin BUA, Kamora Jones (Artsoldier77), Salim Adair (Creation80) & Andrew Kenneth (Andrewit) with each artist creatively translating moments from my experiences as an underground electronic music artist, with original characters and three stories packed into a vivid 32-page comic book anthology. The comic book takes my electronic music team MegaMen NYC morphing them into dj superheroes in an epic battle to restore the underground versus a beast from the EDM void !!!

I have many proud moments but one that stands out for me as a businessman/father would be successfully licensing a song called “Moonwalk Through Customs” created by my son / Hip Hop lyricist Murkemz appearing on SHAFT motion picture soundtrack starring Samuel Jackson. To make the experience even cooler, we saw the movie together when the movie premiered in theaters on Fathers Day weekend 2019 … and what sets me apart from others is hmmm not really sure about, so I’ll leave that up to you to decide.
