Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Bailey.
Hi Greg, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from New Zealand, but my path here wasn’t exactly linear. I spent a number of years living and working in London, and eventually my American wife and I decided it was time for a change. We moved to Arizona as a family, and today we’re raising our son here — he attends a local Catholic school, which helped us feel part of the community pretty quickly.
The business grew out of something personal. I’d struggled with sleep for years — overheating at night, restless sleep, waking up tired. I tried the usual fixes, but nothing really addressed the problem. That frustration led to a lot of late-night reading, testing, and going back to basics.
What kept coming up was how far modern bedding has drifted from function. So much of what’s marketed as “cooling” relies on synthetic materials that trap heat and moisture. In contrast, wool — especially the kind I grew up around in New Zealand — breathes naturally and helps regulate temperature without trying to force it.
That became the foundation for Antipodean Home. The idea wasn’t to reinvent bedding, but to return to materials that already work, and do it thoughtfully. Starting with regenerative New Zealand wool felt like the right place to begin.
Building the brand has been very hands-on, often figuring things out as we go — learning supply chains, refining the product, and earning trust one customer at a time. Living in Phoenix, raising a family, and building something from scratch has been challenging in ways I didn’t expect, but also deeply rewarding.
At its core, it’s still about the same thing: helping people sleep better by reconnecting with materials that nature got right from the start.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all — it’s been anything but smooth.
The biggest challenge has been education. A lot of people hear “wool” and immediately think hot, heavy, or old-fashioned. That assumption is so ingrained that it often stops the conversation before it starts. In reality, wool does the opposite — it breathes, releases heat, and manages moisture far better than most modern synthetics — but changing that mindset takes time.
Early on, that meant explaining why something natural could outperform something engineered, and why comfort isn’t about feeling cold, but about balance. That’s not a quick sell, especially in a market trained to look for buzzwords and instant fixes.
What’s helped is going deeper into where our materials come from. Working exclusively with regenerative farms changed the conversation. When people understand that the wool comes from land that’s being restored — not depleted — they start to see the bigger picture. It’s not just about bedding; it’s about living with nature instead of fighting it.
There have been plenty of other challenges along the way — building trust, refining the product, figuring things out as we go — but that education gap has been the biggest hurdle. At the same time, it’s also become our strongest differentiator. Once people experience the difference, it tends to click.
That shift in understanding has been slow, but it’s real — and it’s what keeps us moving forward.
We’ve been impressed with Antipodean Home, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Antipodean Home is a sleep-focused bedding brand built around natural, regenerative materials. We specialize in wool comforters and organic bedding designed to support deeper, healthier sleep — not by chasing “cooling,” but by restoring balance.
Most people don’t actually sleep hot; their bedding traps heat and moisture, which disrupts deep rest. Our approach is different. Regenerative wool keeps the sleep environment dry and breathable, allowing the body to regulate temperature naturally and settle into a more stable sleep rhythm. Over time, that also means less sweating and a cleaner sleep environment.
What sets us apart is our sourcing. We work exclusively with regenerative farms in New Zealand, where the focus is on restoring the land, not just producing wool. That connection to nature shows up in how our products perform and in what the brand stands for.
We also avoid synthetic cooling treatments and chemical finishes, relying instead on breathability and material integrity. What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built — customers often come in skeptical about wool and leave surprised by how light, breathable, and comfortable it is.
For your readers, I’d want them to know this is about making smarter, long-term choices for sleep — because when you sleep in balance, you genuinely wake up brighter.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
A couple of things have really stuck with me.
One is Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor. It sounds simple, but it completely changed how I think about breathing, especially during sleep. The idea that something as basic as mouth vs. nose breathing can affect sleep quality, stress, and recovery was a bit of a lightbulb moment for me.
I also really enjoy the ZOE podcast with Jonathan Wolf. It’s one of the few health podcasts I keep coming back to because it’s grounded in actual science, not trends. They do a great job breaking down nutrition and gut health in a way that’s practical and easy to follow, without turning it into another set of rules to obsess over.
In general, I’m drawn to resources that help strip things back — less biohacking, more understanding how the body is meant to work. That approach has influenced both how I live and how I’ve built the business.
