Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie McConnell.
Hi Valerie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the creator and executive producer of VAL TV Network Sports & Entertainment, a platform I built from the ground up to spotlight sports, culture, and community stories. Over the years, I’ve produced more than 100 television programs and earned my place in sports media by covering major boxing and MMA promotions including Don King, Mayweather Promotions, Top Rank, PBC, PFL, and Bellator.
During 2020, when much of the industry slowed down, I stayed committed to my vision. That dedication opened a major door in January 2025, when I was handed the keys to Studio VAL TV Network, located at 3700 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 525H in Las Vegas. In partnership with MDDS Consultant / I Sell Studio, I now manage production, livestreaming, studio bookings, influencer content, and sponsorship opportunities from my own creative space.
Today, my programming is syndicated on Cox YurView, giving VAL TV Network regional broadcast reach and expanding the audience for the creators and businesses I work with.
A highlight of my media work has been covering the historic HBCU Las Vegas Classic, from the Raiders Headquarters press conference to the Fremont Street pep rally and the game at Allegiant Stadium. Bringing national attention to HBCU culture is part of the meaningful storytelling I strive to deliver.
Before I launched my media career, I made my mark in entertainment as a featured Soul Train dancer on Don Cornelius’ iconic, record-breaking syndicated show. I was part of a legacy that shaped American music, fashion, and dance culture. My contributions were honored with:
A Proclamation from the Mayor of Chicago for the 55th Anniversary of all Soul Train dancers
A U.S. House of Representatives Certificate of Recognition
A Los Angeles Certificate of Recognition
These acknowledgments mean a lot to me because Soul Train was where I first learned the power of creativity, culture, and visibility—values that continue to guide my work today.
My mission remains simple: stay consistent, stay faithful, and continue building a platform where creators, athletes, and community voices can be seen and heard.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey in media has never been easy. It has been built on hard work, dedication, and staying focused on my goals even when the road was tough. The biggest challenge in this industry has always been funding. When you don’t come from a big media company, you have to create your own lane—and that means finding ways to support your vision when resources are limited.
Another challenge was targeting my market and building an audience from scratch. I had to learn who my viewers were, how to reach them, and how to serve them with content that mattered. There were many days when I had to figure things out on my own with no roadmap, no financial backing, and no guarantees.
But what I did have was talent, creativity, and drive.
I made a decision early on to bank on my own gifts—my editing skills, my production ability, my passion for storytelling, and my commitment to representing my community. Every show I produced, every event I covered, every opportunity I created came from trusting my own capabilities.
There were moments when doors were closed, when people didn’t believe in my vision, and when I had to work twice as hard to get half as far. But I kept going. I stayed consistent, I stayed faithful, and I kept my eyes on the goals God placed in my heart.
The obstacles didn’t stop me—they shaped me. They taught me how to build something out of nothing, how to rely on my strengths, and how to keep rising no matter what challenges came my way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am Valerie McConnell, founder of VAL TV Network, and a broadcaster, TV producer, and host. I specialize in television development from concept to production, managing distribution across major platforms including Sinclair TV Stations, Cox YurView (Cox Communications), VegasLifeTV, and Livestreamers.com, reaching audiences in over 162 countries worldwide.
I am best known as the host of The VAL TV Network Show, where I cover world championship boxing and high-profile sports events. I’ve had the privilege of working with top promotions, including Floyd Mayweather Promotions, and producing content that highlights both athletes and inspiring stories from the community.
One of the programs I am proud to feature is The Showdown Win2B1, founded by Oti Simpleton, a tribute to Roger “The Black Mamba” Mayweather, supporting amateur boxing at TMT Mayweather Gym and mentoring young athletes. Through this work, I aim to give back while celebrating boxing’s legacy.
At VAL TV Network, I combine hosting, production, and distribution with a mission to share stories that entertain, inform, and inspire. My career is rooted in innovation, dedication, and community impact, building a platform where talent, culture, and opportunity thrive.
How do you think about luck?
