Check out Ann Osgood’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Osgood.

Ann, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
From my earliest days drawing and painting was what I did. Growing up in So. California, followed by finishing a BFA in drawing and painting in Hawaii, I ended up in Arizona. I was living at the base of the Superstitions and enjoying the novelty of Apache Junction for several years. I opened the Upstairs Gallery and had some successful shows there. Life took over with raising kids and teaching school. Great times that now are behind me and I have been back at my first love…art. I am thrilled to be able to paint and be part of the supportive Phoenix art community.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I have a cycle of reoccurring themes I return to that includes most subject matter as well as abstract work. I always find color and the gesture of the brush to be of real importance. One of my areas of focus has been streets and freeways. Moving from that focus, I transitioned to painting cars in junkyards. This subject is interesting to me because the subject represents seeking the “American Dream” often means chasing transitory material objects. These things are only shiny objects for a while and then time and the wear of life take their toll. I find beauty in the decay and try to paint that.

How can artists connect with other artists?
I am a member of the Arizona Artists Guild which is the oldest art league in Arizona. I have met many artist friends through my involvement with the AAG. I go to the life drawing sessions there and serve on the executive board. I find the more active I am the more fun it is.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I am a resident artist at The Artery in midtown Phoenix. I also have had solo and group shows including: ASU Gammage Auditorium, Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, (9)The Gallery, The Ice House, Shemer Art Center and First Studio. I am looking forward to a solo show at the ASU Downtown Library next winter.

As Ann’s studio mate, I am inspired and encouraged when I walk into our studio at the Artery. You will enjoy her depth and understanding of art should you come to the Artery, each first Friday, or the many locations that promote Ann’s work.
