Today we’d like to introduce you to Odd Squad Family.
Odd Squad Family, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Odd Squad Family is an independent hip hop group from Phoenix, Arizona. Made up of three very unique individuals, Nubs, A-Factor & Snowman are turning heads everywhere they go, and not just because of their appearance. Their content is an inspiring blend of positive vibes and classic hip hop influences intertwined with a fresh, modern delivery.
Odd Squad Family had been a force hard at work in the Phoenix hip hop scene in 2016, and with the release of their 1088 Mixtape it was clear the fam wasn’t playing around. Working up a buzz and catching the attention of hip-hop producer, AKT Aktion, the Squad signed a production-based deal that offered them the resources they needed to excel as independent musicians. Not too long after that, OSF dropped their first single with AKT Aktion, “New Is”, in January of 2017. The explosive reaction to the video on Facebook puts it on the fast track to being a viral sensation, and the Squad’s Facebook page gained over 20,000 fans in the first week. After the release of “New Ish” the Squad put out a few singles leading up to the release of their first studio album, “Welcome to the Family” which was released on October 3rd, 2017. In the following year, the Squad continued to work hard and release singles regularly up until the release of their “Against All Odds” EP in July, 2018. Not too long after that the guys solidified their partnership with AKT Aktion by forming the record label Only Dreamers LLC. Today the Squad’s Facebook page has reached nearly a quarter-million followers and continues to grow as their content travels around the globe.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Odd Squad Family is a music group. We create music and music videos primarily, but also sell merchandise and release a podcast every Wednesday called “The A is for: A Podcast” hosted by A Factor, where we talk about current events, things we’ve been up to recently, music and anything else the conversation leads us to. We also make an effort to live stream and interact with all of our followers and supporters online, and make sure they know they’re support is appreciated by us. Our brand is about encouraging people to love and be themselves. To recognize that we’re all just normal people and there is nothing wrong with yourself or anyone else, despite what someone’s appearance might lead you to assume. Beyond that, our goal with our content is to spread fun, positive vibes and to inspire people to go after their dreams even if it means going against the odds. What allows us to do what we do, is all of the support we get from people all over the world who stream our music regularly and buy our merchandise on our website. We also wouldn’t be able to do all that we’ve done so far without the help and support of our label Only Dreamers and our business partner/producer AKT Action.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
We feel the industry is evolving in way where the independent artist has more power and opportunity than ever before. Artists today now have access to everything they could ever need through the internet and don’t necessarily need the assistance of a big label or distribution company anymore. It’s not really about what the city can do for us, it’s about what we can do for the city and the world. Our movement is aimed to “Fight for the Odd, and Inspire the Rest”, our goals are to leave a legacy and an imprint on society and change it to where people are treated differently because of their physical or mental differences. We are all Different, we are all unique. Our Goal is to make everyone feel they are accepted, and ultimately to help them accept themselves.
