An Inspired Chat with Jill Roberts of 24th St & Osborn

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jill Roberts. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Jill, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
As I’ve gotten older I see such value in waiting and making sure of decisions instead of impulsive decision making. I also am learning how to listen to others instead of giving my own opinions on things immediately. Seeing the benefit of slow reaction and speech to make other feel loved and valued.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jill Roberts and I am the owner of Twigs and Twine vintage furniture store. We have been a store for over 10 years now and I couldn’t be more thankful for what I do for a living! We specialize in custom painting vintage furniture. I love seeing customers come in our door and be excited about our products and that they are inspired to add character and unique items to their home decor. Seeing old furniture be given new life is also a joy, that a new life cycle can happen and begin all over again.

I started furniture painting when my children were babies and I wanted to redecorate my home but we were on a shoestring budget. I had a can of red paint and I painted my son’s dresser bright red, it turned out amazing and that moment has forever changed my families future with having our store! It was a process to become a great furniture painter (countless hours of trial and error) and learning what my style is, but after all these years I couldn’t be more thankful for our amazing base of customers and employees that are part of this journey with me!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My husband is my biggest cheerleader, he has always seen the value of my creativity before I was able to fully value that for myself. He could also see my heart of loving old and broken items and wanting to fix them into something beautiful conveys also to my personal side of life in wanting to love others around me well.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I have had a lot of grief in my life with loss. There is no way that I would be the person I am without those hard times in life. It has taught me to slow down, to be intentional, to give others space to be themselves because you never know what they are going through. This has taught me to value people over things.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
My goal in life is to love others well. I hope that my authenticity always shows through and gives value to others. I am a simple person and feel that I show who the real me is at all times.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I am getting older and do dream of retirement at some point! 🙂 I think my customers would miss having a place to find unique home decor and furniture. We don’t provide just one style of home furnishings, so we have a wide customer base which allows for all different people shopping with us. I hope they would miss our welcoming store feel as well!
