Meet Trailblazer Renee Michele Wells

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Michele Wells.

Renee Michele, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always had a passion for hair and makeup ever since I was a child. I got my education at Tony and guy in 2005 graduated from hair school. I found a passion for children’s hair and managed a child’s hair salon for a few years till they had to shut down then ended up getting my own salon suite with a partner. In that time, I got pregnant with my first child. I ended up having to put my career second and Mommy work first. Now, three kids later still have a passion for my career. I freelance work for weddings, photo shoots and for cuts and colors. I truly love what I do. Making people look and feel their best is what I stand for.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wouldn’t be a journey if there were no bumps in the road they have only help me learn and grow. One of the biggest struggles for me was finding a place that could stay open it seemed the places I picked ended up going under or sold to a new owner. The rent went up so I ended up having to move locations and started to get clients back.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
In my work, I’d like it to look flawless and effortless I like to bring out the features in people that catch the eye. What stands me apart from other people is that I’m one of the only artists that do airbrush in the state I like to use a certain technique that gives you a flawless face without the cakes look or feeling. If somebody doesn’t like something I tell them it’s not going to hurt my feelings and to tell me because all that matters is how they feel when they walk out that door.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I feel like in my industry women have always had more room to feel at ease to speak their mind in the beauty industry so it’s been interesting to see the past few years males coming up and just appreciating everybody for their artistic abilities to grow as an artist in the community.
