Meet Trailblazer Dayna Tames

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayna Tames.

Dayna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I had lash extensions applied, for the first time, almost a decade ago. When I opened my eyes, it was like I saw a whole new person. It was still me in the mirror but the woman looking back felt beautiful. Without a drop of makeup on, I felt more confident than I ever had. I felt unstoppable! Like I could take over the world. I knew in that moment that I wanted to give my new found love and confidence to every woman I knew. Fast forward a few years and I attended and graduated cosmetology school for the sole purpose of lashing. I’m now a licensed Cosmetologist, business owner and 3x certified lash artist, who’s been mentored and trained by some of the best names in this international industry. I’ve just opened my own studio and I’m beyond excited for what 2019 is bringing my way!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been obstacles along the way, which is why it took me so long to finally do what I love. Like most others, I’ve struggled in my personal life. I struggled with wondering what others would think of me and the judgment, I imagined would come, from deciding to change my career path and go back to school. Cosmetology school, that is. I worried I would disappoint those around me, so I stayed in a job that I felt stagnant in, for years. There came a point I was so dispirited, I felt like only a shell of a person. My husband has been my biggest cheerleader through it all and has really encouraged me to do what makes me happiest. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made and I haven’t felt more content or more sure of myself in as long as I can remember. I get to help woman feel beautiful, on a daily basis and it’s truly one of the most rewarding, fulfilling feelings. My advice for young women just starting out is to… just go for it! Start where you are… with what you have… and do what you can. When you do what you love with passion, success won’t be far away.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m an artist and creator at heart. I always have been and thankfully that’s followed me into my career. I specialize in semi-permanent, custom mapped eyelash extensions and focus predominantly on the artistry aspect of lashing as opposed to the commercial side. I believe that, as well as my integrity, is what sets me apart from a lot of others in my industry. Im proud of doing what’s right, staying educated and current and refusing to lower my standards to make “fast money.” Every set of lashes I create is a masterpiece in my mind’s eye, thoughtfully constructed to meet each beautiful woman’s specific needs. There is no “one size fits all” in what I do. That’s the most fun about it! I’m most proud though, of the way women feel when they leave my studio. Fierce, confident and unstoppable… they leave with an attitude that can’t be tamed… and that’s everything myself and my brand stand for.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
It sounds cliche… but do what sets your soul on fire! Find who you are and what you stand for… and be that. Ask yourself what you want to see in this world and then create it. Think of it every day, focus, feel what it’s like to have it and make it so. When you align your visions with your talent and passions… I truly believe anything is possible.
