Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanna Rosalye Luna.
Johanna Rosalye, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story starts 11 years ago when the Arizona Diamondbacks hosted the 2011 All-Star game, I participated as a volunteer for the MLB All-Star activities which opened the door to where I am today. While participating as a volunteer at the MLB All-star Fanfest, I met the founder and president of The Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum Hall of Fame, Gabriel “Tito” Avila. It is here where I got my start and opened one of many doors into baseball and sports. I started with HHBM as a contributor to their baseball website column. As time went on, I become more involved in the evolution of the columns sports coverage and creating a correspondent team. In 2015, we created an online network reporting the latest baseball news and airing podcasts. HHBM was the foundation of my exposure to baseball during the seven years of contribution to the organization. In my coverage of the game of baseball and networking I met Paul Richardson founder of The Sports Kave. I joined The Sports Kave team as a correspondent in 2014. The Sports Kave covers local Phoenix sports with a national roundup, both online and on air with “The Kave Show”. Behind the scenes between HHBM and The Sports Kave I started my own baseball blog called “More Than Simply Baseball” back in 2013. The blog involved in depth stories of players, the game of baseball, and current news within the game. After two years, I decided to expand my blog to more than baseball, include stories that involved other sports such as basketball, football, and more.
This led to the creation of a new website “More than Simply Sports” and go away with “More than Simply Baseball”. The new website gained popularity which created new opportunities; guest starring in podcasts, co-hosting podcasts, and additional contributions in sports media. In 2017, I decided to rebrand the website and give it a new image with the new direction I am taking the website in creating an online sports network. At “Insight Sports Network” we translate sports to the core. In addition to the website rebranding, a podcast was also launched in 2017 called “Insight Sports Talk”. My passion for writing, sports and media has driven me to where I am today and launch multiple websites not only in sports but also in lifestyle. In 2019 I made the decision to launch a lifestyle website “Insight Notion”, which focus is to expand the everyday persons knowledge in vast subjects with thoughts and opinions ranging from politics, sports, world views, health, and more. There is more to come as the two new website evolve and grow.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Becoming an entrepreneur is not an easy start, but if you do it with passion you push past the struggles to success. To be honest, when I first started my first website I had little knowledge of what I was doing. I did it for fun with no goals in place, just expressing my thought and opinions. As people learned about it, the website gain popularity, that’s when I took advantage of exposing/promoting my website in social media. This is when I realized I wanted to do more with the website. Although the website was gaining popularity, it did not have the exposure that I was looking for. Marketing has been the toughest struggle to gain audience. I also experienced some health issues with Endometriosis three years ago that made it a struggle to keep the website flowing and social media marketing active. After bouncing back from my health struggles, it is when I decided to rebrand and make a comeback with the new network.
Please tell us about Insight Sports Network.
Insight Sports Network is an online sports network. We translate sports to the core. We go beyond the player, athlete, sports, more than just sports news. We engage to learn and understand more from the topic at hand. Our focus is providing thoughts, insights, opinions on different sports and topics relating to a sport. Our podcasts are focused to engage the audience in the same aspect as our stories. My largest accomplishment is being able to start the website/online network with a twist. As the network grows/expands there will be additional content released in new formats/mediums through our network. Our content will not only be available through our website but will also be accessible through social media and streaming mediums. Our podcasts are accessible through various podcasts listening platforms to include Apple Podcast, iHeart Radio, Spotify to name a few.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
No, I would not say that I would do it any differently. My journey and struggles have taught me along the way and got me to where I am now. I am happy with the progress and the lessons, if it wouldn’t be for that I wouldn’t be able say that I would be where I am today. The mentors, friends, and people along the way have helped me evolve not only as a person but my business as well. I am thankful for it all that has helped me in my entrepreneurial, as this is one of major accomplishments. Looking forward to what is ahead.
