Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn and Aaron Freeman.
Jocelyn and Aaron, please share your story with us.
Our journey was unexpected. We were working as a nurse and an engineer locally when we started to have dozens of couples around us ask us how we were managing our finances, how we were communicating effectively, how we set goals as a couple. We noticed that couples were desiring to learn about successful relationship habits and we began to document the principles we implemented into our lives.
We then met a book publisher who wanted to publish our book idea for couples.
We decided to step away from our corporate careers as a nurse and engineer to create programs, resources and events for couples.
For the last several years, we have been coaching couples both online and in person to achieve their goals together.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth journey, but the lessons are the best part. It was definitely scary to decide to quit our very secure jobs as a nurse and engineer- it truly felt like a leap of faith.
There were many times we had to shift from the “employee mindset” to the “entrepreneur mindset” and learn the dynamic aspects of owning a business.
Not only that but to be creating a business with our spouse took learning how to be business partners and romantic partners. We had to learn to communicate accountabilities and business goals while we could still experience romance and play together.
We have had some major successes and some major learning lessons, but it’s all worth it. For example, for the first 6 months after writing our book, we didn’t know what programs we wanted to make for couples. We didn’t package the products correctly and we couldn’t find out where our ideal clients were. But we started to survey couples, find out more about their needs and after a product redesign for our coaching hit massive success the next year.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the EmPowered Couples story. Tell us more about the business.
Our business feels more like a life purpose for us. We actually have a Couples Vision Statement (one of our principles we teach): Our vision is to experience joy, financial freedom and massive contribution through speaking, coaching and investing to empower couples to fulfill their dreams together and lower the divorce rate.
We are inspired every day by that vision.
We fulfill this vision statement through virtual 2-on-2 couples coaching, leading workshops and speeches and now we’ve started to certify other couples coaches so as a team we can impact the world.
We are grateful that our message has got the attention of media sources and our principles have been shared with the audiences in places like Huffington Post, Forbes online, AZTV News, Dating Advice and others.
We are known for teaching principles that are both PRACTICAL and POWERFUL for couples: like creating a Couples Vision Statement, creating your Family Values, how to create a business or a mission together.
People are resonating with our vision and our principles because it’s about proactively strengthening your relationship and not just doing something once you feel you need counseling. It’s about growing stronger together as a couple.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We would swap the word “luck” for synchronicity. We believe in the power of our thoughts, belief and the energy we put off in the world. So for us ‘luck’ has played more into our visions and ideas manifesting and showing up in unexpected ways. For example, we have a new exciting project we are working on that we can’t announce yet, but it will reach millions and that came from visualizing it happening and then the opportunity literally knocked at our door.
