Today we’d like to introduce you to JenLyn and Matt Long.
JenLyn and Matt, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Long before Daily Dose was around, we first met while working in a restaurant in our hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Matt, who graduated first in his class at culinary school, was set on opening his own restaurant before his 25th birthday, and I shared his passion. A few years after we met, we decided to head West in search of adventure. We packed up our things and headed to Arizona. Warmer weather and the dream of opening a restaurant was beckoning.
In 2003, we opened our first restaurant a few months before Matt’s 25th birthday. The restaurant, called Fusion, was an upscale dining restaurant. After a successful seven-year run, we decided to close Fusion to focus on what had always been our dream – to open a brunch restaurant in Scottsdale where our guests could enjoy delicious food in a fun environment at a fair price. We opened Daily Dose in Scottsdale in 2008, and It turned out we weren’t the only ones excited about the concept. Our customers loved it! So much so that we opened a second location in 2012 – Daily Dose MidTown on Highland Ave at the Colonnade. In 2020, we brought Daily Dose to Tempe when we opened Daily Dose Rio Salado in March.
How did we get to where we are today? We care about the details. Every day, we put 100% into making sure we are giving our guests the best food and the best experience. Whether we’re interviewing staff to find the right people for the job, inspecting our produce to make sure we use only the finest, or greeting our customers with a genuine welcome, we give it our all. And the reward comes from the feedback we get from our customers. Running three restaurants takes a lot of effort for sure, but when you love what you do, it’s extremely rewarding to do what we do and to get it right.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth road? We’re restaurant owners in 2020! The pandemic definitely threw us a curveball we weren’t expecting — we actually had to close our Tempe location just one week after we opened! And while the past several months have been challenging for many reasons, we’ve learned a lot through the experience. Having a strong team is essential. Providing an enjoyable experience and great scratch-made food at a fair price is what we do best. While many businesses pivoted this year and tried a new approach, we chose to stick with what we do best, and our customers are so happy we did. In a time when everything seems to be turned upside down, we love being a place where people know they can come to make memories with their family and enjoy great food and outstanding service in a comfortable and fun setting.
We’d love to hear more about the business.
We are a locally owned breakfast and lunch restaurant, and we put our heart and soul into delivering an incredible experience. We pride ourselves on making the best fresh, delicious scratch-made food and drinks — and judging from the feedback we get from our customers, we’re succeeding! Some of our most popular dishes are the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes, Breakfast Nachos, Chicken and Waffles, Banana Bread French Toast, and the Hangover Sandwich. Not gonna lie — our bacon is pretty incredible too.
There’s plenty to indulge in, but we also have lots of delicious choices for healthy eaters and those on special diets. Guests rave about our power bowl, oatmeal, tempeh burrito, and white egg wrap. And our salads are crave-worthy too — all made with fresh ingredients, great flavor combos, and tasty house-made dressings.
Specialty cocktails like the Spicy Watermelon Margarita and Bacon Bloody Mary are definite crowd-pleasers, and unique spiked coffee drinks are a fun addition to the breakfast menu. Craft beer lovers appreciate the wide assortment of brews. All three of our locations have patio dining and offer dine-in and takeout. For those looking to cater to small meetings or family gatherings, we can easily cater takeout meals for groups from 5 to 500.
