Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacy Smith and Burt Cigler.
ReFresh IT started after Burt and Jacy worked as the internal I.T. department for a hospice management company that went under. They decided that they wanted to continue offering I.T. support and services, but on their own terms and with the understanding that technology is supposed to help- not hinder. Their goal is to provide I.T. support that is not intimidating or cumbersome for a small business.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part, things have been pretty smooth. They say like attracts like, so most of our clients understand what we’re trying to do. It’s nice to have small business owners that provide a service to small businesses, especially when it comes to I.T.
Some of the biggest challenges are providing I.T. support services while keeping businesses safe from cyber threats. So many things change in the I.T. world minute by minute. Instead of shoving complicated systems onto clients, we work with them to educate them on things we have to do operationally to keep them compliant and secure.
Burt and Jacy were friends a few years before starting their business together. Sometimes it’s hard to keep business things and personal things separate, but we both have the same end goal of providing great customer service. Neither of us can argue over that.
ReFresh IT – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
ReFresh IT provides I.T. support and consulting to all businesses. We primarily focus on health care, but we have clients from several different industries like legal, retail stores and a few others. We’re known for our very personalized I.T. support and getting to know the business so we can suggest an appropriate solution. Every single client we have has a different setup and it’s based on what they need most to have their business operate the most efficiently so they can stay focused on what they do best.
We’re most proud of the fact that we strive to stay current on topics and attend training as often as possible. In addition, we give back a lot to the community by volunteering for and sponsoring initiatives focused on supporting youth in tech and business. Some of the events we’ve supported are things like CodeDay and Youth Startup Weekend. One thing we want to focus on down the road is hiring more women for technical roles. It can be difficult for women to break into the technology sector, but since we’re owned 50% by a woman and 50% by a man, why not?
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think success is defined by making sure you accomplish what you want to in your lifetime. You get to decide what you want and how your life should look. It might take a lot of work to get there or not very much, but the point is getting there. For me personally, being happy and doing what I want to do it what makes me successful. – Jacy
