Meet Dave Welch of Paragon Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Welch.

Dave, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My wife, Diane Krieger and I both own and operate Paragon Chiropractic. I became interested in chiropractic after hurting my low back with weightlifting and sports. Diane is the 23rd chiropractor in her family. We met in Chiropractic College in Illinois and after a few years there decided to move to Arizona where we were married and opened Paragon Chiropractic in October of 1990. The rest is history, as they say. We’ve been married for 27 years, and in practice together for the same amount of time. Currently our daughter is in Chiropractic University in Dallas, TX and our 2 sons help us in our practice as Chiropractic Assistants. It is truly a family practice that loves helping families get the most out of their time together… There is nothing cooler than working with your family. I look around the office and see my wife and kids helping others live happier and healthier lives. Diane and I built our practice from nothing- we rented a space, threw up a shingle and went for it, and here we all are- Paragon Chiropractic. It’s really amazing, and I really cannot think of a greater way to spend my time here on earth. Hopefully Diane and the kids feel the same about me!!!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s always a challenge, but anything worth doing is. Our biggest challenge has been adapting our practice over the years… Diane and I graduated from Chiropractic School in 1985, The patients and types of injuries we saw at that time are not the same types of patients and injuries we see today. Thirty or more years ago, people were more active, and in my opinion not constantly “on”. It was possible to rest back then, Today, these sedentary life styles with computers, and cell phones, limited recess and gym class in school, and a world that seems to run 24/7 has a far greater negative impact on peoples’ overall health and wellness than getting injured running or being active at work or in sports. Over half the people in the United States are considered obese. Unfortunately, these types of people tend to be more unhealthy, and as a result, do not recover very quickly from their illnesses. This coupled with sitting all day, staring at phones and computers only compounds the problem. Treatment programs that were not as complex a few generations ago, must now focus on lifestyle modifications, exercise, diet, weight management and handling chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, elevated blood fats and glucose, Stress management is also very important. In addition to this, people can now go on the internet and “self-diagnose” themselves which can often mean doing the wrong things when trying to help themselves. On top of this, changes in the laws governing how to practice, new diagnostic codes, Obamacare, insurance practices…. There is always something, but that’s the journey.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Paragon Chiropractic – what should we know?
My wife and I are chiropractors and we specialize in helping your body resolve its own health issues the way nature intended. Chiropractic care can be miraculous in many cases. It does so without the use of medicine or surgery. There are a number of things I am most proud of- mainly the number of people we help each day, who feel better and are able to enjoy their lives through the treatment and advise that we deliver. My wife and I have been chiropractors for over 30 years. We have been a part of many peoples’ lives, for many, many years.

We try to help the person who is standing in front of us each visit. Sometimes it’s back pain, sometimes work or family problems. It’s just a great feeling to be a part of another person’s life and watch them succeed and do well.

The thing that really sets us apart is that we listen, we care and we try to help. Thirty plus years? Yes, we have been very, very successful in helping others.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Genuinely being interested in the people who come to us for help. If one is interested, one can find a way. Finding that way, and helping is what is most important to our success, and our patients.
