Meet Nico De Bruyn of Boundless Media in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nico De Bruyn.

Nico, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in South Africa but immigrated to the United States when I was 12 years old. From an early age, the only successful people I saw around me were doctors, which led me to choose a medical profession route when I entered college. Two years into college, my heart was pulling me into a new direction, but I didn’t know what that was. After months of searching and doing “mini internships,” I discovered that every opportunity that people would give me have something to do with marketing. To test this theory, I sought to try to sell and market something online. This came to be an empty Apple MacBook box on eBay, and they sold really well. This is my first entrepreneurial endeavor using marketing as a driver. I was hooked. Six months before graduating from college, I decided to write a book and use it as a tool to get me into my first job.

I interviewed 20 of the top Marketers in the country. I wrote down the rules, tips and tricks that made them successful. Within two weeks of getting a job, I was restless and started a media company with one of my best friends. Over the course of the year, we have gone through many pivots, changes ups, and downs, but today we offer a product that is like nothing else in the marketplace. We focus on one thing and one thing only, making marketing simple. So whether you get our products to help you understand your brand or help you create five pieces of content a day with only three hours invested a month, our driving force is always making marketing impactful and straightforward for the business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Having a smooth road has never been in the cards, and I would have it no other way. There have been countless ups and downs, for instants getting clients for the first time and not even knowing where to start, what the process would look like, or even how to send invoices. Although I wrote a book about marketing, my undergrad was still in nutrition, so there is always a lot to learn, and I continue to learn every day. Even in hard times, we continue to grow and learn, which keeps us humble so that we never rest on our laurels. I guess you can say that by not having a smooth path, it has forced us to adapt not just our processes better products to make it as simple as possible so that no one ever has a struggle the way we did.

I define success as leaving the world and every person I meet better than I found them. This has been my driving focus and north star for as long as I can remember. Success to me doesn’t stop with a specific dollar amount in my bank account but rather the number of people I can impact.
