Meet Angela Harrolle of 100 Club of Arizona in Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Harrolle.

Angela  came to be the CEO for the 100 Club of Arizona in a very unconventional fashion. From rural Minnesota, Angela strived to see the world. This vision led her to Arizona State University to obtain her B.S. degree in Justice Studies and Business in 1997. Angela was able to use this degree to obtain a position for the U. S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service as a Special Agent. Angela completed domestic and international investigations related to Visa/Passport fraud. Angela was also assigned to the Secretary of State’s executive protection detail, thus traveling to 34 countries (now 44!). Angela was also the Asst. Regional Security Officer for our United States Embassies in Chile, Haiti, and Mexico.

After meeting her husband, Bruce Harrolle (police officer/paramedic/firefighter from Tucson, AZ) and having a child, Angela resigned from her Special Agent position with Diplomatic Security in an effort to provide some stability to her family. Angela transitioned from the role as a Special Agent to a contract Special Investigator so that she could remain in Arizona and work investigations as needed. In addition, Angela opened her own real estate brokerage focusing on the residential relocation of government employees.

Life took an unexpected turn in October 2008, when Angela’s husband and the father of her two young children were killed in the line of duty. Angela worked with the Arizona Dept. of Public Safety on legislation that would provide surviving families lifetime health insurance benefits following a line of duty death. This law is forever known as Harrolle’s Law.

Angela continues her aforementioned work and is also a partner in several local restaurant concepts such as CHoP Chandler, The Living Room, and Humble Pie. Angela and her children Addie (13) and Justice (11) reside in Chandler, AZ and continue to be Ambassadors for the 100 Club of Arizona, helping public safety families throughout the state.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In order to grow, change is required. We’ve moved into a new era embracing technology. We’ve taken on a “text-to-text to give a platform and learned that if the entry isn’t exact, and people have a tendency to have ‘fat fingers’ that you may be giving to a well deserving rural charity in Africa rather than supporting the intended 100 Club of Arizona. Being specific matters! 😉

Progress can sometimes be uncomfortable. We have started a podcast, and on a non-profit budget, we are building it slowly but surely. It is “The Call” stories from behind the badge. We hope to increase our following as we know there are so many well-deserving calls worth sharing. We’ve interviewed a presidential medal of valor recipient a Peoria firefighter who had to pull a victim from burning home, to a police officer shot in the line of duty. These stories often have you on the edge of your seat!

The day to day challenge is always trying to do more with less. If I were to generalize, I believe this is the struggle for every non-profit.

100 Club of Arizona – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Since 1968, the 100 Club has provided assistance to statewide public safety agencies, officers, firefighters, EMT/Paramedics, and their families. The 100 Club supports all city, county, state, federal and tribal public safety agencies, fire services, probation, corrections, parole and law enforcement departments who provide for the safety of the citizens of Arizona. Benefits and support are also extended to officers and firefighters who are called to active duty military while still employed by a qualified public safety agency. As a 501(c)(3), the 100 Club of Arizona is dedicated to standing behind the men and women who stand behind the badge.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Candidly, the proudest moment was seeing the success of our license plate initiative. We received approval from the state and went back to the drawing board on the design. The design has been a big part of our accomplishment in this arena. Initially, we were concerned as a non-profit that we would be able to recapture our initial investment into the plate a whopping $32,000 (1882 plates). We were told that many organizations struggle to do this. Fortunately, we crossed that hurdle and now are proud to say we have almost 24,000 plates on vehicles supporting public safety statewide. We hope that people continue to choose this vanity plate in support of the 100 Club of Arizona and our law enforcement and firefighters.
