Life and Work with Dr. Michelle Snow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Michelle Snow.

Dr. Snow, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m an Arizona native who grew up as an active kid, always in some sort of sport or outdoor adventuring. My passion for helping people and fascination of the human body led me to seek out a career in preventative medicine. I worked with a few Chiropractors in my college years and truly fell in love with it! Moving away from Arizona and my family for Chiropractic school in California was exciting, yet difficult for me. I longed for the days when I could participate in my family gatherings again and spend my days adventuring the outdoors and helping people stay active in doing the activities they love to do!

With tremendous support from my family and friends, I started my Chiropractic practice in 2017 back in Arizona. This launched me into the wonderful and rigorous life of entrepreneurship which has led me to bring to life a life-vision that even three years ago I would have never imagined possible. In fact, none of it would have been possible without my family, friends, and mentors, so to them I am eternally grateful!

My passion for the outdoors and helping active individuals has allowed me to focus much on my patient care with individuals in the rock climbing community, mainly at BlackRock Bouldering Gym. This community has become like a family to me who challenges me to stay sharp in my knowledge and skills while lifting me up with their deep appreciation for helping them continue pursuing their love of climbing; it’s incomparable and incredible to be part of.

Ultimately, it’s my goal as a healthcare provider to equip my patients with tools specific to them so they can truly take ownership of their health and help prevent future pain or injury so they can keep doing the activities they love!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey to build my life and career here in the Phoenix valley has definitely been challenging, yet so rewarding. I jumped feet first into starting my practice in Scottsdale two years ago and it’s been a learning process filled with ups and downs. Learning to run a business while also focusing on providing the best care possible to my patients has come with many long days, stressful moments and reliance on true grit to stay true to my vision. Honestly, I wouldn’t change it all for the world. I’ve grown tremendously as an individual over the past two years and having the flexibility as my own boss to be able to partake in those family events that I missed so much while in California is priceless.

My advice for other women starting out on their journey: STAY CONSISTENT and TRUE TO YOUR VISION. Consistency will teach you the strength and patience needed to bring your vision to life. On those days when you want to give up and cry, simply show up for yourself and do one consistent action daily that will move you forward toward your vision even if it’s only a tiny forward step.

Please tell us about Ascend Chiropractic.
I’m a Doctor of Chiropractic by trade, but wear many hats in my current weekly life including online health and fitness coach as well as a nanny. I have a passion for physical activity, especially rock climbing, hiking, and weight lifting. These activities fuel my soul, so I implement them into my regular life as much as possible, thus leading me to work with and treat many rock climbers.

I love helping climbers stay pain-free and improve their body movement/mechanics so they can continue climbing outdoors or in the bouldering gym. The climbing community is very tight-knit, joyful, adventurous and determined which makes working with them a blast!

Something unique about my Chiropractic care is I spend a lot of time with each patient so I can truly get to know their health history along with their current lifestyle so I can provide well-rounded care to the whole individual. All too often our world moves too quickly and captures only small aspects of us as individuals, leaving parts of us unattended to. I’ve learned through my clinical work at a VA hospital that it’s vital to touch on the physical, mental and emotional because disarray in any of these can present as issues in another. As a medical provider, my mission is to always have the patient’s best interests at the forefront and there are times where other types of care other than my own may need to be implemented to create the most benefit for the patient.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
My biggest advice to young women is to give yourself grace in the process. We all tend to be our own worst critics but remember that everyone has to start somewhere and YOUR journey is truly unique. What you offer is much needed in this world so keep pushing for your goals, implement self-care so you can continue consistently and avoid burnout, surround yourself with uplifting like-minded people and ultimately focus on creating a life YOU love.

My favorite quote is “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to DANCE IN THE RAIN”. We will always have storms in life that help refine us, sometimes even washing out unnecessary things in order to clear the path we are meant to take. Take joy in your storm and KEEP DANCING!
