Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Vinck.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up surrounded by all the diet culture in the early 2000s of counting calories, special k-diets, calories in calories out, cardio was the best thing, low-carb, and the idea that skinny was the same as healthy. These learned habits carried over with me into college in the form of cutting out food groups altogether like “processed carbs” to following paleo… But nothing ever stuck. I found myself on the on-off again cycle of being “good” or “bad” when it came to food, exercise, and being “healthy”.
It wasn’t until post-college I found a workout, called Solidcore that it changed for me. Not saying working out was the missing piece but it was the kickstart of me really wanting to take care of my body and learning how to fuel it properly. This workout showed me I could be strong (and not have to just do cardio) but that I needed to fuel my body properly in order to feel energized (without passing out in class from not eating) and support myself physically.
After being a client for about 3 years, I became a Solidcore coach with a passion for health. But I was only just learning what “health” really looked and felt like. Through my own self-exploration and investing in myself, I learned how to optimize my health by prioritizing whole foods and cooking more at home, taking care of myself mentally and physically by setting boundaries and working with a life coach, and prioritizing my overall health not just physical.
Now 3 years later I’m still a fitness coach but also a Holistic Health Coach with a passion for whole body wellbeing!
I’d like to say my journey is in the early stages and I’m just getting started (in the best way). I have been working with clients for just over a year now and it lights me up with clients have that ah-ha moment that they can ditch their diets and find freedom around food!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Before 2022, both fitness and health coaching were just my passion projects on the side of my full-time HR job. I was laid off at the beginning of 2022 and it took me by surprise. I had the plan to take coaching full time but not on the timeline the universe had for me! But I took that as my sign to dive all in and take my health coaching business and wellness passion full time.
It’s definitely been a challenge being thrown out of my comfort zone having to learn how to launch, grow, and sustain a business and I wouldn’t be able to dive in head first if it were for my husband’s unwavering support! I’m reminded daily that what I share with my clients applies to me as well. It’s not always going to be perfect or happen the way you think it will. But it’s a journey and you get to take both hands on the wheel and steer where you want it to go.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Balance Wellness is my health coaching practice where I meet you where you are at. I help busy professional women stop dieting and find freedom around foods so they can feel good in their bodies and enjoy their happiest and healthiest life! I approach wellness from more than just what you eat because your health is so much more than that. I start by working with clients on their mindset because your actions are driven by your thoughts. What you think about yourself, about food, and about health drive the actions (or inactions) you take.
Each person has the power and ability to change their life! The body can heal itself, by itself when given half the chance. I strongly believe in the approach of combining body-love and internal awareness with nutritional knowledge to find what your own version of healthy and happy looks like. Work, stress, relationships, your home environment and so much more all impact your health. Far beyond just food and exercise. As a coach, I help my clients get to the why behind their goals and then support them on their journey.
Right now I just offer one-on-one coaching to clients to give them the accountability, support, and guidance to reach their goals. My goal is to be able to scale and offer group coaching and potentially a membership in the future!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I am so grateful and blessed to have found my life coach because she acted as a mentor and network all in one. My advice would be to find someone you connect with as a person who has what you want. My coach has a thriving coaching business and I connect with her values and philosophy which makes working with her so easy and fun!
