Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenna Testa.
Hi Brenna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Joliet, IL, a small suburb outside Chicago. Before moving to Tempe, AZ, I attended a Catholic grade school and high school to attend Arizona State University college. There, I was involved in my sorority for all 4 years, serving on the executive board, planning events, making friends, and having the best college experience! I graduated with a Business Tourism degree and a minor in Special Event Management, always knowing I wanted to event plan! While I was a senior in college, I heard about an open position at Girl About Town as an event assistant and quickly applied. I got the job and a couple of months later was promoted to Picnic Coordinator & a year promoted to Event Coordinator! I have loved watching Girl About Town grow these past 2 years and have been lucky to be there for so much! My friends have also always been a part of the GAT team. A coworker, Kayla Nelson, is my best friend whom I met in college. She started working at GAT shortly after me and has become my right-hand woman in all events! I love sharing work with my longtime best friend and all the other amazing friends I have made through the Girl About Town team!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With every business comes struggles. Girl About Town is such a new, small and unique business we were bound to run into some bumps along the way. It’s how we dealt with those bumps that led us to where we are at today! Girl About Town started about 2 years before the outbreak of Covid-19. As traveling and tourism came back to life, Arizona was popular for bachelorette parties immediately after the shutdown. This was a booming time for us. Trying to handle the abundance of inquiries, with changing staff, having never dealt with this amount of clients before, was very difficult. We had to be fast on our feet, making decisions, trying to please everyone. It was a learning process as each day passed, but I am happy to say we have a solid system, hardworking team, and strong boss and are ready for whatever is thrown our way this upcoming busy season!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am one of the Event Coordinators at Girl About Town. My job is to handle our clients from when they inquire to when they leave Scottsdale. I handle everything in between. My biggest priority is ensuring our clients receive exactly what they want & are happy with their event! I am most proud of how much I have grown within the company. I went from assisting the event coordinator to picnic coordinator to now being the event coordinator & have learned the importance of taking care of each client as if they’re my only client. A bachelorette party is such a special event but can also be stressful, so making sure my clients know I am here to help and support them throughout the entire planning time is what makes our business the best! What sets me apart from others is how well I can handle problems. I have a lot of event assistants who work under me but, most importantly, look up to me when they need advice on what to do in a situation at an event or how to set up the event. I feel I am always calm and can come up with the best solution quickly. That is important to me because I look for the same from a boss, so I always want to make sure I am someone you can approach with any issues!
Who else deserves credit for your story?
My biggest supporters are and always will be my parents, Erin & Mike Testa. No matter what I’m doing or where I want to go with my career, they are in full support & always want the best for me. If it weren’t for them pushing me to move to Arizona for college to expand my horizons and get to know a different lifestyle, I would not be the woman I am today. I owe it all to them & am forever grateful to have the two of them by my side. My coworkers also play a huge role in my success. Working with all women can be tough, but these ladies make every day worth it. We are all such good friends and always lift each other. I know that all of them have my back, so Meghan, Sheridan, Kayla, Alex, Lexi, Tiana, Sonya, and Lauren, thank you for all that you do for this company, and for me, it doesn’t go unnoticed!
