Art & Life with Miss Krystle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miss Krystle.

Miss, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have been a musician, entertainer, and otherwise involved in the entertainment industry for the better part of the last 19 years. While my music education and interest really started when I was 4, my personal journey as Miss Krystle did not start until my late teens.

At the time, my music students would call me Miss Krystle, and I also adopted the name officially following my dissociation from the Miss America pageant system. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the Miss American pageant system, however, I decided to stop wearing other people’s titles, and made my own. I became Miss Krystle.

The most exciting time in my music career is actually right now. I am in the process of formally launching my record label, Dukes Up Records, I am about to release a Deluxe Edition of my Inevitable album, a book focused on law and music, I am giving an upcoming Ted Talk, and beyond all that, I have a new singe “Save Yourself” coming out before the end of the year. There are so many exciting things going on, and I feel like everything I have been working towards is right around the corner.

I make music. My music pretty consistently is about personal empowerment, fighting for your dreams, and never giving up. It is also a diary and positive way of handling negative emotions. Instead of lashing out, I make music. I define my sound as AggroPop (aggressive pop). While I certainly am no stranger to recording and releasing ballad type songs (voice and piano only), the majority of what I do is pop style music, but infused with cyber pop, pop rock, and even industrial pop at times. I think distorted synths are sexy as hell, so especially with the upcoming single “Save Yourself,” we really drive that overall vibe home. I work with That Orko, who is my producer and co-writer. We wrote and released my “Woman In Motion” album and “Inevitable” EP. Those of these records have a nice variety of AggroPop, but I made a concerted effort with That Orko to focus on writing songs that will really hit fans in the chest, especially during live shows.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?

There are so many exciting things going on, and I feel like everything I have been working towards is right around the corner. Beyond all that, I am just very grateful that I have the opportunity to fight, grow, plan, work, and continue dreaming about what could be. All I have ever wanted was to have a viable music career. Yes, I am a business women and entrepreneur on top of everything else that I do, but everything I do, I do because of that one simple dream. What can I say, I’m just not that complicated?

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
The role of artists is to interpret the world and share what we see through our art. I think local, national, or international events and issues just influence the conversation, but the purpose and point of art never changes.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
