Today we’d like to introduce you to Maxine Novick.
Maxine, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My life has always revolved around art. I was born and raised in Wyoming, and my favorite part of that was my pottery studio where I would give my friends lessons and produce pots to sell in my mom’s shop. I moved to Phoenix five years ago to enjoy the warm weather and study educational video gaming. I fell in love with the city and started my career as a game programming teacher and an abstract artist. Now I own a ton of cats and chickens who inspire me daily, and I paint pictures of them frequently in my free time!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Although I dabble in a lot of different styles and paint a lot of cat portraits, my specialty is abstract art and anything acrylic. One of my favorite styles is acrylic paint pouring, which I create with chemically infused paint that I mix myself and a blow torch. As of recently, I have also been using alcohol inks to create colorful pieces. My best advice to any artist would be to never give up, and remember that you are your own worst critic. There are many moments where art can be incredibly frustrating; often I will produce pieces that didn’t capture the vision I had in mind, but it is important to stay persistent. Experimenting with different art styles has also benefited me greatly – finding your niche is important!
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
An important quality that artists have is the ability to be constantly inspired. I love taking color theory courses to inspire my palettes for abstract pieces. I’m also inspired by my pets, as they show up in a lot of my pieces. I define success as an artist as being happy with your own pieces. Finding that inner peace and having that confidence can go a long way!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
One of the most rewarding parts of being an artist is getting to share my work with the world! Most of my creative process is documented on Instagram (www.instagram.com/missmaqs.png), and I sell my pieces online (www.facebook.com/missmaqspng).
