Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Nobody, I never listened to what the world told me I had to be or should be. I don’t believe in that, I don’t follow that. I do what I want, I create my own life, create my own journey. I live life on my terms

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I never learned how to read in what you would call the traditional manner; I was taught to memorize words. So I had a hard time reading, especially reading out loud. This discouraged me from reading books because if I didn’t know the word, I didn’t know how to sound it out. Which, in turn, also led me to struggle with spelling. So then I didn’t like to write things, even handwritten things. Especially when I was younger, there really wasn’t a lot of spell check, so I shied away from doing reports and projects because I also couldn’t spell. So I spent many years not reading books; I never read a single book in school or college. Then I discovered audiobooks that helped me learn more words and how to say things in sentence structure, and they opened me up to reading regular books. Now I read a lot. I typically read 30 to 50 books a year, a mix of audio e-books and traditional books.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely, I do not play a character on TV or the internet, and it does get me in trouble from time to time. But I don’t care. I don’t like conforming to the status quo, especially when most people don’t think and they don’t do things based on their own thinking or evaluation of the situation. Instead, they do what they’re told to do, like putting in their Twitter bio or pronouns to use and what conflict to believe in, what political party side to be on. I don’t subscribe to any of those things.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I was very generous and kind (maybe not nice all the time), but with good intentions.
