Maddisen V. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Maddisen, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, I’ve really been enjoying taking dance classes! I was a competitive cheerleader for 10 years, and I’ve missed performing as an adult. Recently, I started classes with Diva Dance, which has been such a fun and empowering way to reconnect with that side of myself. I’m also getting back into concert photography. Capturing the energy and emotion of live shows always makes me feel alive.
Outside of running a social media agency and photography business, I volunteer with CreativeMornings Phoenix as a photographer and social media manager. I absolutely love CreativeMornings! It’s such a wonderful community, and I enjoy exploring new venues each month and hearing inspiring speakers. It’s a great way to stay connected and inspired outside of my day-to-day work.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi there! I’m Maddisen, and I run a social media agency and photography business that’s rooted in supporting creative entrepreneurs, musicians, artists, small business owners, and anyone building something meaningful from the heart. I help bring their ideas to life through intentional branding, visual storytelling, and strategy that actually feels good to them.
What started as a love for photography has grown into something much deeper: a space where artists and creatives feel seen, heard, and supported in all aspects of their digital presence. Lately, I’ve been stepping more into a creative strategist and director role, offering consulting and coaching, helping creatives get clear on their vision, and building marketing campaigns that align with who they are.
At the same time, I’m reconnecting with my own creativity. I’ve been picking up my camera more often, not just for work but for play, and embracing the freedom of creating just to create. It’s a really exciting season balancing business strategy with artistic exploration, and helping others do the same.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
Honestly, my clients! I learn something new every single day from the incredible people I work with. They come from all different industries and walks of life, and they’ve taught me that marketing isn’t one-size-fits-all. What works for one person might not work for another, and that’s what keeps my work so dynamic and inspiring. Their passion, creativity, and ambition constantly push me to grow and adapt.
That said, I’ve also taught myself a lot. I built my business from the ground up and have navigated every aspect of it on my own from the creative side to the strategy, operations, and client relationships. It’s been a journey of trial and error, and I’ve learned just as much through doing as I have through observing.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Definitely. I think every creative and entrepreneur hits those moments where they question their path, and I’ve had a few. One of the biggest was during COVID. At the time, I was working in the music industry, and when everything shut down, that world didn’t bounce back right away. I had to pivot into a different industry and role, and it shook my confidence for a while.
Another moment was right before I moved to Phoenix about a year ago. I had gone through a really tough season in San Diego, personally and professionally, and I seriously considered walking away from it all. But making the move to Phoenix ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It gave me the space and energy to fully step into my creativity again and rebuild with a stronger sense of purpose.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
This is such an interesting question, and I’d have to say yes. Online, I think I often come across as a go-getter who’s always creating, collaborating, or doing something exciting. And that version of me is definitely real! I am ambitious, creative, and full of energy… but I’m also deeply sensitive and emotional. There are just as many days where I’m curled up at home, feeling everything, and moving a little slower.
In person, I’m pretty much the same. I don’t really believe in hiding parts of myself, whether it’s my emotions, my opinions, or the messier moments in between. I’m an open book. What you see is what you get. Me is me, online and off.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I love this question because my answer is, and probably always will be, nothing. I’m someone who goes after what I want with no regrets. When I was 18, I moved across the country to Arizona for school without knowing a single person and with no clear plan. After college, I picked up and moved to San Diego on a whim—no money, no job lined up, just trusting myself. I lived there for five years, then just as spontaneously moved back to Phoenix without telling anyone.
I’ve quit jobs to pursue freelance work. I’ve worked across industries, music, weddings, metaphysical spaces, and every chapter has taught me something new. I honestly just follow what lights me up. Life’s too short to live in fear or hesitation. I trust that things will unfold the way they’re meant to, and I’d rather take the leap than wonder what if.
