Story & Lesson Highlights with Kahlia Ferguson of Scottsdale

We recently had the chance to connect with Kahlia Ferguson and have shared our conversation below.

Kahlia, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My team. The performers who love the job of being a princess performer or superhero performer and show up ready to make memories. The performers who aren’t in it just for the pretty dresses and glamorous hair and makeup, but the smiles and lasting impressions they make for kids. I am also extremely proud of the warm, supportive, and positive environment we’ve created. Because we typically only send 1-2 performers out together, people rarely get to see the cheers of happiness when we all roll up to a photoshoot or company hang and get to be around a fellow performer we haven’t seen in a while. It always makes me smile to see performers meeting each other for the first time and exchanging SnapChat handles so they can stay in touch!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Kahlia!
I’m the founder/owner of The Enchanted Princess Company, a character company in the Phoenix metro area. My company sends princess performers to birthday parties, public events, and anything we can be apart of! We are proud to send out realistic versions of the characters that kids love so much, while also connecting with the parents and coordinators behind the events. Our performers really take to heart that the events we do are for both the children and the adults that plan them.
I started The EPC after finishing my degree in flute performance in Long Beach, CA. I was a character performer out there for 5 years and decided to move back to Arizona and start my own company. I thought I could bring a fresh perspective to the princess party scene, which proved to be true with our many successful bookings right off the bat! One of the things I love most about running this company is the constant motivation to provide well paid performance opportunities for college kids. The great thing about this job is that performers primarily perform on the weekends, which allows them to make decent money while focusing on school work throughout the week.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Pretty much who I am now, but with some everyday anxiety that I’m trying to work through! I’ve always had a big imagination and loved bringing it to life. I watched Mary Poppins at least 2 times a week from the time I was 3-5, and I always wanted to fly with an umbrella in my hand. I still haven’t made that happen yet, but I can at least play her and sing her songs for kiddos who share that same aspiration.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
In order to develop the skills you will need to live the life your meant to, you will have to struggle and be uncomfortable.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Pretty much! I don’t always wear princess dresses and full glam makeup, but I would say I am sort of like Giselle from Enchanted whether I’m a character or myself.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Stressing about the little stuff and go on as many vacations as I could.
