Jocelyn Garcia shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Jocelyn , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
While I don’t see myself pursuing a perfect life anymore (2015-2020), I’ve found a new sense of purpose in my life because it aligns with my values of family and adventure. (2021-2025)
What im really chasing is, not a destination but a feeling of growth and fulfillment every day. Balancing my career with my family and always continuing to learn new things. A life where I can be a supportive parent and have creative freedom.
If I stop, my personal growth stops along with it. I would be depriving not only myself from so many opportunities, but my family as well.
It wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it would be the end of my world.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello my name is Jocelyn Garcia, I am a stay at home mom and I am the owner behind Garciafamilyexplores. I take our family exploring, capture all the magical moments, (and the not so magical) and share our experiences throughout my platforms. Editing, creating content and sharing tips on how to save money on some of the same activities, is as fulfilling as the adventure itself. This is just the beginning, and im excited for what’s to come.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Jumping to conclusions, hate, jealousy, miscommunication, misinterpretation, lies, ect. Just about anything can break the bond between people. Putting your ego aside, listening, and understanding other people’s point of views are just some of the things you can do to restore the bonds.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, is: “Take it easy, just keep your head up, and keep up the great work, your doing great, there is no pressure to be perfect sweetie.”
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I believed perfection existed. Everyday I would find a way to better myself, a way to improve my “image”. I went as far as permanently tattooing my eyebrows at 18 years old, because I believed they would stay the perfect shape forever. I believed if I was perfect, I would be accepted and liked by everyone. I was nieve to think I can be perfect and live a perfect life. We all have flaws, but we are also all perfect in our own way.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Letting so many people down when I chose to live my life on my terms, was never my intention. Raising my children as a stay at home mom was always something I felt I was born to do. As a loving and nurturing person, I always pictured myself a doctor, a lawyer, a therapist, or even a teacher, because in one way or another I would have been helping families. As a stay at home mom, I feel I am all of the above, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all life’s blessings.
