Brian Zucker shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Brian, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
The flow state. When I’m producing music and my thoughts and ideas just flow directly into the software. Everything I think of in my head ends up in my production software, and translates directly back into my ears.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I go my LEESH, a DJ and Electronic Music Producer based out of Mesa, Arizona. The goal of my music project is to redefine the electronic music landscape with textured, thought-provoking productions that blend energy and emotion.
My catalogue of music spans popular subgeneres of electronic music, such as Midtempo, Trap, and House. My music is intentionally crafted to not only make you move, but also make you feel and think. Instead of following the BPM inflation trend in dance music, I tend to slow things down, seamlessly blending intricate percussion, evolving soundscapes, and meticulously crafted sounds to create a deeply immersive listening experience.
On stage, its all about balancing intensity with introspection, taking listeners on a dynamic sonic journey. In a nightclub or at a music festival, my sets are intentionally crafted with this in mind.
The goal for me has always been to create music and sounds that people haven’t heard before.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
In 2018 I saw Bon Iver at Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco. At the time, I had been listening to his music religiously for over 5 years. He had just released an oddly experiemental record that was on repeat for me.
When he performed my favorite song from the record 715-CREEKS, an acapella song that is performed with a vocoder to warp and alter his voice, I burst into tears.
In that moment, I felt the power of music. The blend of human and machine. He was screaming into the microphone and I had never felt a power like that before. It was so overwhemling, in the best way possible.
I learned, from that moment, that the most impactful music is music that touches your emotions. I think about that moment often, and continually try to integrate emotion in my own music.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
There is no such thing as a “guilty pleasure”. If you like something, LIKE IT.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Artists, especially electronic music producers & DJs, should always try to play as much of their own music as possible at shows.
If you make music that’s danceable, you shouldn’t worry about “filling a dance floor” or “keeping people interested”. It should be about YOUR ART that you created.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
You’re driving in your car by yourself, one of my songs comes on shuffle from your liked songs on Spotify, and you immediately think of that specific moment in your life my song reminds you of. Whether its a good or bad, I want my music to remind you of a time in your life. That’s the impact I want.
