SkyLee Edmiston of Tucson on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to SkyLee Edmiston. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning SkyLee, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
My days are wildly full right now in the best way. I’m up by 6am with my new puppy, Daisy Rae. We hit the pavement for our morning walk before I whip up breakfast for both of us (yes, she eats like a queen). Then it’s off to tend to the tiny farm: four spoiled chickens and a couple of cats who act like they pay rent.

From 7:30 to 3:30 I work remotely for a beauty school, and as soon as I clock out, I switch gears and head straight to my spa to take clients until about 8pm. After that, it’s back home for dinner with Daisy and either a gym session or knocking out a home project—because apparently sleep is optional when you’re building an empire.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m SkyLee Nicole Edmiston. Licensed esthetician, holistic skin specialist, and founder of Face the Fight, a nonprofit wellness spa where spirit meets skin. Every service helps fund free treatments for cancer patients, because skincare should be accessible, empowering, and deeply restorative—especially for those who need it most.

At Face the Fight, we don’t just do facials, we create full-on healing rituals. My signature treatments blend science-backed skincare with intuitive techniques like sound therapy, energy work, and therapeutic touch. I also just launched my first product, Muse Balm. It’s a lush, botanical massage balm I formulated to elevate the facial experience and deeply nourish the skin (and yes, it’s as dreamy as it sounds).

Beyond the treatment room, I’m working on a project that’s especially close to my heart, a new app designed by an esthetician, for estheticians. I can’t spill too much yet, but let’s just say… it’s about to shake things up in the best way.

If you’re into skincare with soul, purpose-driven beauty, and a little vintage sparkle—you’re in the right place.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a wild child with a big mouth before anyone could label me as one. I knew exactly who I was and what I wanted from day one and I had the ginger sass to back it up. My grandma used to shake her head and ask, “When will you ever learn to keep your mouth shut?”… and honestly? I still haven’t. I’ve always believed in speaking up, standing firm, and showing up fully, even when it wasn’t cute or convenient. That fire never left, it just got focused. Now I use that same voice to advocate, educate, and build something real in the beauty industry.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Losing my son’s grandma, my own mother, and my grandma to cancer has had a profound impact on who I am and how I move through the world. Each loss left a mark, but losing my mom hit in a way I never could’ve prepared for. The truth is, we didn’t have the best relationship during the last decade of her life, and when she passed, the guilt was overwhelming. Grief doesn’t just hurt, it complicates everything you thought you understood about love, resentment, forgiveness, and time.

That pain became a turning point. It cracked me open and pushed me to create something meaningful out of the loss. Face the Fight became more than a spa, it became my way of transforming guilt into grace, and honoring the parts of my story that weren’t picture-perfect. It’s where I give the kind of care I wish I could’ve given sooner. To others, and to myself.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is what you get with me, there’s no “work version” and “real-life version.” I show up as myself in every room I walk into. I’m direct, passionate, and honest to a fault, which can sometimes make navigating buttoned-up environments a little… interesting. Let’s just say I don’t thrive in spaces where politeness matters more than progress. But I’ve learned that my voice, my authenticity, and my no-BS approach are my superpowers and the right people see that as an asset, not a liability. I’m not here to play the game, I’m here to change it.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I’m not just building a spa, I’m building a movement. What started as a small, purpose-driven space is evolving into a community rooted in healing, love, and impact. My dream is that in 7 to 10 years, Face the Fight will be a full-scale wellness center. A thriving hub where people come to restore, reconnect, and feel truly cared for.

But big visions require big growth, so I’ve also been deep in the work of building my financial literacy. I’m learning how to manage, multiply, and move money with intention, so that the heart behind my mission is backed by the strategy to sustain it. This is legacy work, and I’m here for the long game.
