Rising Stars: Meet Kris Lundy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Lundy.

Kris Lundy

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Beauty has always been a passion which developed over 15 years ago. I started in my hometown of Atlanta, GA, and I’m now servicing Phoenix, AZ, along with Atlanta. I’ve done everything from lashes, makeup, you name it, but I zoned in on perfecting my craft in braiding 5 years ago and I’ve definitely found lane.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh no, I feel no entrepreneur has a smooth road. If it was easy, everyone would do it. I struggled with my confidence at first, thinking, “I’m not as good as other braiders. Why would ladies’ book with me?” But my drive and determination kept me going. I faced A LOT of setbacks on my journey from divorce, accidents, moving, you know, just life. But I always stayed focused on the goal regards of the hell that was going on around me. I still put my all into my craft and building a brand I could be proud of!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bella K. Beauty is the home of the Boho Knotless braids. Funny story: 5 years ago, when I first started braiding full time, I had a lady ask me to do her 7-year-old daughter’s hair. I had never serviced kids, but I had to learn. Any business owner knows in the beginning you really don’t want to turn down any clients. She showed me the style, which is Boho braids, braids with curly hair braided throughout to create a bohemian look. I’ve never done it. But I watched videos, and I practiced, and within 24 hours, I had the style down. The daughter comes hair matted and tangled; I was terrified. A 4-hour style turned into 7 hours. The poor child was also tender head, but we made it through, and I executed. Needless to say, 5 years later, that is the only style I do. A hard lesson turned into a goldmine.

What sets me apart is God. I carry him within everything I do. He gave me the vision to do what I do, and even when the picture gets blurry or when I didn’t understand or know what to do and wanted to quit, God gave me everything I needed to keep going, and every client I touch I make sure they leave with a piece of him and a set of luxury braids!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Hmm, that’s a good one because I’m already such a private person, but what comes to mind of something surprising is I don’t sleep, and I currently survive on Starbucks. I know I know it’s horrible, but after standing and braiding for 8 plus hours, per head with some days 2 heads a day, the last thing you want to do is cook. So, my blood is basically cold brew!
