Rising Stars: Meet Josh Kennedy of Phoenix / Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Kennedy.

Josh, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the Ozarks and moved to Tempe Arizona to go to the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences.. There I started working at the Gin Blossoms studio for them where I met Chico (our drummer) and then meeting Brenden( Bassist). From there it was just full tilt and we have been writing, recording and touring ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been easy. The music business is different these days. It’s not just about being a great band with great songs and touring on them. Streaming services rip the bands off for the most part, so touring is the way you make your living, and tour life isn’t as glamorous as people think. Being away from your family is extremely hard and the road can wear on you pretty good. Also with all the social media platforms, you have to be a constant content creator to keep up. There’s a lot that goes into it, but we love playing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I play guitar and sing for the Black Moods. We specialize in writing good songs, playing great shows and making good records. I’m most proud of having the amazing fan base we have. They are THE best and keep us going. I think what sets us apart is we keep moving. We dig the ditches and work extremely hard. We are a 3 piece rock’n’roll force to be reckoned with.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Get out there and do it. Play hard, work hard and be kind. Shake hands, take pictures and talk to people. Pretty simple actually.
