We’re looking forward to introducing you to Relix The UnderGod. Check out our conversation below.
Relix , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Self awareness
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I, Relix The UnderGod (formerly ReLiX The Underdog), am a Scottish-American music producer, DJ, and composer based out of Miami, FL. Am I most recognised for my mashup mixtapes from the early 2010s, as well as the song “Purple Flowers” feat. Drake & Wiz Khalifa. I have garnered millions of views and streams online, which in turn earned me the title “Mashup God”. After changing my moniker from Underdog to UnderGod in 2015, I have been concentrating on production solely, releasing 17 instrumental albums since, with my 18th album, “Halloween Massacre” coming this Fall 2025. My sound consists primarily of heavy, 808-driven, dark, moody productions. I have produced for and collaborated with several hip-hop artists
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
My anger- for the longest time, I would wake up and go to sleep with this unexplainable emptiness and anger. I carried it around with me for years, which in turn affected me spiritually, mentally and physically. It took me years to finally recognise the damage I was doing to myself and others. Ultimately, I learned that I can only control my emotions and not others. This has helped me concentrate more on my passion (music) and my well-being.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes- around the pandemic, I really felt that no one rocked with my music anymore. My stats were low, I was losing followers on my social media left and right, and I had a very bad case of “producer’s block”. I found out that when I allow outside stressors to come into my life and rule, my creativity and drive are all but depleted.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Lol, this is a good one. I would have to say no. The majority of the people who THINK they know me only know the person I presented myself as. Not a lot of the people I went to school with knew that I was born in Scotland. And essentially none of my co-workers, both past and present, know that I am an underground trap producer with a very wide audience.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
The reason why I produced and the message I was conveying. Very rarely have I come across anyone who can recognise the intricacies of my music. They are much more detailed than you would think. I don’t just make beats. I make instrumental stories. Maybe the next generations will be able to pick up on this.
