Today we’d like to introduce you to Sidney Reeves.
Hi Sidney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The idea for ThePreppedCo came to life after planning two back-to-back events for my sister, her bachelorette trip in Miami and her bridal shower in Texas. I was in charge of all the decor for both, and getting everything there was a nightmare each time.
For Miami, a friend and I each had to pay to check a bag just to get the decorations there, and then paid again for a half-empty bag on the way home. For Texas, I happened to have family there and was able to ship everything ahead of time, and it was incredible how much stress that one change lifted. Even then, coordinating getting everything from their house to the actual venue was a feat of its own.
That experience stuck with me. I had felt both sides, the chaos of hauling decor through an airport and the relief of having it handled ahead of time, and I knew there had to be a better solution that combined the two. As I started sharing the idea with family and friends I quickly realized this wasn’t just my problem. Almost everyone I talked to had a version of this story, whether it was a ruined suitcase, an extra checked bag fee, or just the stress of coordinating decor across state lines. The problem was bigger than my experience, it just hadn’t been solved yet.
That’s where ThePreppedCo came from. What I found as I built it out was that it was hard to fit into a specific category or industry, because I was essentially creating a new one. There was a clear gap between doing everything yourself and paying thousands for a full service event planner, and nobody was living in that middle space. ThePreppedCo bridges that gap. We’re a seamless, affordable option for people who have great taste and great vision but just need their decor to show up.
I spent the last year working behind the scenes, really focused on making sure the system worked cohesively and that every detail of the customer experience was thought out and stress tested. I wanted it to feel seamless from the moment someone placed their first Amazon order to the moment their decor showed up at their door.
We’re launched now and working on getting the word out, both for groups traveling to Scottsdale and for local events in the area. Bachelorette weekends, bridal showers, birthdays, corporate events. We’re here for all of it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, the road has been anything but smooth, but the challenges have been worth it.
One of the biggest hurdles has been the fact that ThePreppedCo doesn’t fit neatly into an existing category. When you’re building something that hasn’t existed before, even the basics become complicated. Defining the business on Google, finding the right insurance classification, explaining what we do to vendors and partners, all of it required a lot of creative problem solving because there was no existing framework to work from.
The other major challenge is awareness. Since this is a brand new type of service, people don’t know to look for it. You can’t Google something you don’t know exists. So a huge part of what I’m focused on right now is simply getting the word out and helping people connect the dots between a problem they’ve always had and a solution they didn’t know was available.
And then there’s the behind the scenes work that nobody sees. My vision and idea have been the same from day one, but the logistics, the systems, the customer experience, all of it has been revised over and over again to get it just right. I wanted every touchpoint to feel seamless and intentional, and that kind of refinement takes time. It’s the unglamorous part of building something new but it’s also what I’m most proud of.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do ThePreppedCo full time now, but my background is in sales and consulting, and I think that experience shaped how I approach everything I build. Over five years of building relationships and working closely with businesses taught me how to identify what people actually need versus what they think they want, and how to drill down to the core of a problem in order to find the best solution. That instinct is at the heart of ThePreppedCo.
Outside of work I am someone who travels, crafts, and puts family at the center of everything. Those things are not separate from who I am professionally, they inform it. The eye for detail that comes from crafting, the perspective that comes from traveling, the groundedness that comes from family. It all shows up in how I run this business.
What I am most proud of is the level of care and attention I bring to the things I am passionate about. That is not unique to my career. It shows up in anything that sparks my creativity, challenges me, and has the potential to genuinely benefit someone else once it is done. I have always been drawn to finding innovative solutions in spaces that did not ask for them, looking at something that already exists and asking if there is a better way.
As a woman building something from the ground up, I am proud of the space I take up and the standard I hold myself to. But more than that I am proud of the opportunity to lift other people up, women and men alike. I have never been interested in making things a competition. We all have something to learn from one another and I think the most powerful thing you can do in any industry is lead with that belief.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am an avid reader. I read 23 books last year and this year I am working through some classics. I am currently reading East of Eden and it’s been both challenging and rewarding.
I also have a master’s degree in biomedical sciences, which is probably not what most people expect from someone running an event logistics company.
On the adventure side, I love to travel and I am always looking for the next experience that pushes me. In April I am heading to Guatemala to hike Acatenango, a 13,000 foot active volcano, which I am equal parts terrified and thrilled about.
I am also one of seven kids and the second oldest, which I think explains a lot about who I am. Growing up in a big family teaches you how to lead, how to negotiate, and how to get a group of very different people on the same page. It also apparently teaches you how to write songs and direct plays, because that is exactly what I did growing up. I would write full productions and make all my siblings perform them whether they wanted to or not. Looking back that was probably my first taste of being a creative director.
I’ll end on a biggest fear: I am absolutely terrified of snakes. When I was young, my mom told me she saw a snake where I had been standing a whole day before, and I cried.
