Meet the Hypeman that’s taking over Arizona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malik Smith who is also known as Hypeman.

Hypeman, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started as a choreographer being scouted by Chris Brown’s backup dancers; Hefa Tuita and Randi Kemper. Due to popularity, I was able to attract a crowd to whatever place I was going. Then I was offered a position as a promoter which was never heard of where I grew up (Indiana). Lastly, I began to hone my craft by creating opportunities for myself and now I am able to sell out concerts 5,000 with people and climbing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I was starting out, promoting was a huge struggle. The industry will definitely test you. A lot of good promoters had  a solid team from what I could tell and being that I was a new, I was on my own so I had to start from scratch, which actually help me in the long run.

Like any investment, deciding to go into venture was a gamble but as you can see, I’m all in.

My patience has been pushed to boundless limits and I’m always on edge because anything can happen at any time, remember, it’s a gamble. It’s important for me to surround myself with people I can trust and count on.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I promote and coordinate concerts for well-known artists such as Juice Wrld, Da Baby and Jacquees. I also host parties for the top three colleges in Arizona including Arizona state university, Grand Canyon University, University of Arizona and Northern Arizona university. I’m mostly proud of the progression I’ve made, coming from a small town in Indiana I never thought I’d have this much influence. For my team, barriers don’t exist and we’re constantly trying to be more innovative and original in our promotional strategies. I am extremely grateful for all of that we’ve been able to accomplish and this is definitely just a beginning.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Best is that it is building and very inspiring makes you wanna keep up. Least I like is that there is no culture, no love, no support a lot of things I thought were very inspiring turned out to be false and fake.
