Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Mauldin.
Logan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My mother founded a jewelry company based in South Carolina when I was young girl. I accompanied her on many buying trips to Mexico where she taught me the beauty of the Mexican culture and people and the art of jewelry design. Later in life I worked for her company as a buyer and designer. In 2011, I was immersed in my yoga community and was teaching yoga at a local studio. While I loved the experience of teaching, I missed creating and designing and so I decided to play around with some jewelry designs. I reconnected with the silversmiths I’d known from my childhood and previous work experience, and they made a few silver charms for me that I had designed. I gave a couple of my pieces to the two women who owned the yoga studio where I was teaching and they encouraged me to sell my jewelry. And that was the beginning of Silver & Sage!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I began Silver & Sage, the jewelry and I were embraced by my friends and the strong yoga community in Scottsdale. From there, our growth has always happened very naturally, and we quickly became known nationally and internationally through the word of mouth and the yoga events around the country we participated in. As with any business, there have been many challenges. Learning to manage growth and all of the risks and distractions that come with it has been one of my greatest challenges. I have learned so much though the years and Silver & Sage (thankfully) has remained very grounded and strong throughout all of my trials and tribulations and its leader.
Silver & Sage Jewelry – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Silver & Sage offers hand-made jewelry made of high-quality, natural gemstones, and assorted charms and elements. Our designs are exclusive to Silver & Sage, and our customers love our jewelry because of the meaning behind it. Our jewelry is much more than an accessory. It is something that our customers connect to, whether it be through the natural properties of the stones they are wearing, or a symbol on a charm. Each piece becomes a personal talisman of sorts. We are well-known for our mala beads, which are designed to be used in the traditional way for meditation, but also can be worn as a multi-wrap bracelet or a necklace. We host workshops on malas, the meanings of stones, and meditation on a regular basis at our beautiful store in Scottsdale, and also as guests at yoga studios and events around the country.
I am most proud of the community of people who wear and love Silver & Sage. The greatest gift of my business has been the people that I’ve met along the way. I’m also very proud of the fact that we still make our jewelry right here at home in Scottsdale.
We love helping customers design their own jewelry (in workshops and privately) based on the combination of stones that speak to them.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments have been when my sons (ages 15 and 12) come home and say they’ve seen someone wearing Silver & Sage or I hear them talking about it to someone. I am really proud to have created a meaningful business that my children and I are excited about and thankful for.
Throughout the years, our customers have shared their own stories with their Silver & Sage jewelry and how much it has meant to them. Their stories and the connection that Silver & Sage inspires makes me immensely proud as well.
